Since the last time I wrote we've driven all the way from Nairobi to Jinja. The first night we camped in Nakuru National Park, famous for Lake Nakuru with all of the flamingoes. We saw giraffes, black rhino, water buffalo, squillions of impala, baboons, a lion (albeit in the distnace taking its post snacking on buffalo nap!), wart hos, jackals and of course the flamingoes. The campsite was interesting as there no fence around it, so at one point our guide had to shoo away a buffalo so someone could use the loo and I woke in the morning to find baboon poo outside the tent. At least the lions stayed away :-) The second night we stayed in Eldoret, close to where the Kenyan train up their runners at the University of Champions.
This place is amazing though. So beautiful and crazy in a nice way. Uganda is a lot greener and lusher than Kenya, and the people are just as warm and friendly. We've passed loads of small towns and villages on the way. The little kids get so excited and shout 'jambo, jambo' (hello) while running and waving. There are of course a lot that ask for money and sweets. You can't escape the poverty here.
This is the strangest (and hottest) Christmas I think I've ever had. The campsite we're at is overlooking the source of the nile. There is a bar here too luckily so last night was spent drinking and dancing until the early ours with the other campers and some of the locals.
Tomorrow we head off towards Kampala and should be with the Gorillas in Rwanda by the 28th. I'm so excited!!!
Happy Christmas everyone and sorry that I didn't get around to doing cards this year. It's nothing personal I was just unorgansied!
Love,
Sandra xx
