We were up at 6 am and ready in record time to grab an early breakfast and be ready for our 7.17 am pick up for our boat trip. Unfortunately we arrived at the Port of Airlie only to be told that our trip was cancelled due to mechanical problems, the hydraulics apparently. After our long day on the road yesterday we decided to be a bit more leisurely today. Breakfast is included here so we made our way to the restaurant for our 'tropical buffet'. The view from our table out over the pool and the bay was absolutely stunning. Takes your breath away and no mistake. Breakfast was pretty good too! At the tour desk we booked ourselves a sail boat trip for tomorrow and then sat with our laptops in the lobby while doing a pile of laundry....

We left Cairns at about 9.20 am, in the rain as ever. Heavy rain, sugar cane, clouds and mountains were our companions for the first part of our journey south. Plenty of sugar cane trains and many, many creeks. We turned off the road to visit The Babinda Boulders. So glad we did! We had a super walk along the side of the river, really fast flowing water and several viewpoints over the rapids. Stern warnings as too many people have died here through being too adve...
