Our Travels
After breakfast we decided to go for a bit of a wander. We had a bit of shopping to collect in Broadway, Newmarket so we hopped on a red City Link bus. Unfortunately for us, this bus immediately turned a corner and took us in entirely the opposite direction from where we wanted to go! We got off at the Britomart transport centre and got on a green Inner Link bus which, quite miraculously, took us in the right direction. Those Link buses seem to be a very good idea for getting around, and if we could only find someone to explain to us how they work we feel sure that they would be absolutely perfect!!
The bus took us through some areas that we recognised from our last visit and, as we passed through Parnell, we were able to point out the bar and the restaurant from last night. After visiting the Sony shop where we were able to collect the only LCD camera screen protector available in New Zealand, (ordered last week when we were here in Auckland and shipped in specially from Christchurch!!), we decided to take a slow stroll back to the hotel.
We passed through several suburbs, took a walk around the outer edges of the Domain which is Auckland's main park, and saw many interesting old houses along the way. By the time we returned to the hotel there was lively music blasting out in all directions as Fan Zones and stalls were being set up ahead of tonight's rugby quarter finals.
Before heading off to the game we met up for a drink with Inken, our hard working travel agent, and it is good to see that she is surviving the constant demands of all her RWC clients. Don't worry Inken, only another couple of weeks to go and it will all be over!!
On arrival at Eden Park we were directed to a very nice lounge on the third floor where we enjoyed a lovely meal and some entertaining pre-match comments provided by Andrew Mehrtens, the ex All Black. We were also able to watch the earlier quarter final, an exciting game between Ireland and Wales in which Wales triumphed despite Ireland being tipped to win. Sadly for all the England fans, our own quarter final did not go according to plan either. It was a disappointing night and seemed that England somehow never really got going until it was much too late. I'm sure the players are as disappointed as we are that their tournament is over but that's the name of the game.
Oh well, never mind, we will just have to go out and buy red shirts and support Wales!!
