Wow what a week it has been! I have visited some amazing temples, all covered with gold and other bling bling. Buddhism is such a beautiful religion, everything is in harmony. This upcomming week will all be about Buddhism, I'll be staying with the monks tonight, chanting, meditating and praying with them.
Last week I also had thai lessons and I have learned how to prepare a thai meal :D It's sounds more interesting than it is though, the two lessons were not that good.
But the highlights of my week happend during this weekend. I have been to Kanchanaburi, a city mostly known for it's role in the WWII. At the museum they rebuilt the huts in which the prisoners of war had to live. Their living conditions were terrible, they had to work in this incredible heat for hours a day, with little food and water. Awfull stories... Afterwards I saw the Bridge on the river Kwai, famous for the movie that was shot their.
Less depressing was the last activity of the weekend: being photographed while touching tigers! It was difficult getting into the tiger temple (you were not allowed to wear red, orange pink. No scarfs or shawls were allowed, no shorts and you shoulders should be covered) Of course I wore a fierce red summer dress, so I looked like a juicy ham with legs, but fortunatly I had just bought a long dark purple dress which I could wear.
Being upclose with the tigers was amazing. Their so strong and beautiful. I can't make up my mind though about the way they were exploided at the temple. The tigers were chained and were very drowzy. The volunteers explained that the tigers had eaten and exercised before the tourists were allowed to touch them, which would expain their drowsiness. The entrance fee was also expensive, you are supposingly attributing to a new tiger suitable environment at the temple...
Anywayz, there is an internet cafe 2 minutes from the project, so I'll blog every week.
