It took us six trains and eleven hours to get to Venice from Interlaken! For the most part, it was fairly easy and relaxing but then one of the trains we were meant to get was cancelled. Turns out it was a big strike action day and all sorts of transportation was affected, as we soon found out. We were able to get another train and made it to Milan where we had a reservation. The train was really nice (first class with perks!), travelling with lots of business people and got freebies. However, even this train was affected by the strikes and so we got to Venice pretty late. As a result, we missed the bus to the camping ground (which may not have even been running due to strikes) so after a big walk around, we ended up having to get a very expensive taxi.
The next day we caught the ferry from the mainland (where the camping ground was) to Venice. We spent six hours wandering the streets, canals and bridges, and getting generally lost. We saw the main square and the bridges over the main canal, as well as lots of churches and old buildings. Venice was busy with lots of tourists and plenty of souviner/gift shops. After a big day getting lost in Venice, it was time to head back and prepare for our trip to Florence.
