So everything that I have been talking about for the last semester, is finally here! I am sitting in a internet cafe in Madrid right now typing away. The hotel we are staying in is exquisite! It is one of those hotels that you have to put the room key in a little slot to even turn on the lights...very innovative, but not so great when you are stumbling around in the middle night trying to go to the bathroom Madrid has been exciting, but not exactly what I was expecting...the people just kind of stick to themselves and I think that they have siestas 247, because there is never anyone outside...haha. We had a two hours siesta (nap) yesterday and it was glorious!
The first day we arrived, we went on a 2 hour walking tour. I thought that after a 24 hr traveling trip I would be exhausted, but I wasn't at all - I was so excited about being here that I felt like we could walk for miles. Yesterday, we went to Prado, Reina Sophia, and the opera in the evening. I got left by the group on the way to the Prado...so I had to find it by myself. Mom, Dad - you would be so proud. I did it like a champ =) The museums are absolutely breathtaking. The Reina Sophia was my favorite - Dali and Picasso are there. Two pieces of art I stared at for quite a while were "Woman in the Window" and "The Garden of Earthly Delights". I was my typical dorky self - but it didnt bother me.
The people in my group are great! We have already formed a really fun group of people and some how my room has become the party room every night - so much that one night, Claire and I took a nap while everyone else hung out in our room. Everyone is really funny and laid-back...so I think, actually, I know that it is going to be a great four weeks.
The food has been more than a little rough - my picky, no food touching thing has not been appreciated by Spain. so looks like I might be coming back a skinny little thing - oh wait, even though I hate it, I somehow have managed to finish my plate every time because I am so hungry that everything tastes like heaven (little bit of an exaggeration, but it is doable).
We went to Toledo today and at first I did not want to go but I am more than happy that we went! It finally felt like we were in Spain. The town was sooo cute..everyone was making fun of me because everything I saw (be it a person or a building), my word to use was cute. It was the only thing I could think of, everything was just cute =).
Tonight is our last night in Madrid and then we have an eight hour ride to Barcelona. I have been feeling really under the weather, so I am hoping that I will be feeling better before we get to Barcelona.
I will post pictures as soon as I can. I miss you all! and I promise my next blog will be much more entertaining...it is just that it is a thousand and ten degrees in here.
LOVE YOU!
