Hope everyone is well!
I have just returned from our 3 days trecking in Chiang Mai-man this was tough!
We arrived in here around 8am after our 13 hour train from Bangkok, the train was amazing at around 9.30pm they pulled the beds down and we all had a relatively good nights sleep, me and Cei (welsh girl also travelling solo) went for a wonder around the town-found some amazing temples and had a rather painfull but satisfying thai massage.
The following day we started our treck-we drove for an hour or so up into the hills and stopped off at a waterfall-I had never seen one before so I was amazed by this! we swam around for a while and then headed back to the truck to drive further in to the hills.
When we arrived I don't think anything could have prepared me for how tough it actually was going to be-in my mind it was going to a walk around some forrests-how wrong could I be! first of all we were walking for around 4 hours per day a majority of which was uphill, second of all it was thick thick jungle we were walking through not much of a beaten path, third of all there was the temperature-it was so hot and sweaty and finally there were the leaches! yes leaches! these things are disgusting and we were all covered in the pesky little blood suckers and I seemed to be designated the role of chief puller offer! If I ever see another one again it'll be to soon!
We litterally stumbled (stood on) across a few snakes too but it was all worth it when we arrived at our first hill tribe village-this one was very small only around 100 people-they had no electricity or anything and no TV! we washed in the local river which was shared with the rest of the village and the local buffalo! We chilled out that evening and were all in bed by 9pm as its too dark to see anything after that!
We started our next treck the following morning this was equally as tough although no leaches that day which was good, we arrived at the elephant camp that morning where we bathed and rode the elephants to our next village (much bigger around 500 people) it was all worth it for the elephants they were incredible! the next day we rode on a bamboo raft down the river (they have just filmed rambo here) too our trucks where we drove back to our comfortable hotel! aaaah bliss!
Today I am going to sit by the pool and relax-its a hard life this travelling malarky!
Lots of love guys
