Hello! i know its been a while. but that means I've got more to go on about - so here you go!
Petrol smells different here! It has the hint of normal petrol, but its got other things going on with it to - not sure if I'm a fan.
Still no good chippy chips either :(
Anyway, we went to Nelson Bay the other weekend - it was our anniversary so Glen took me on a surprise trip. Nelson bay is one of the areas around the resort of Port Stephens. Had a sunny day on Sunday, but was a bit miserable on Mon and Tues.
We saw dolphins at the beach and on a boat trip, and Glen had a huge sea food platter every evening! I tried bits (apart from the oysters!) and have decided I don't mind lobster...
On Monday night there was a spectacular storm, and thank goodness for digital cameras, as in an attempt to get an amazing lightning shot we took over a hundred pics!
Travelling round in Australia does have its perks. They have fun signs like "test your speedometer! This is 0km" And then every k theres another sign, all so that at 5k you can check that your speedometer is 5k further. I have no idea what you do if its not - but anyway , it passed time for 5k!
There are alos koala crossings over the road - basically metal telegraph poles connected by a mesh across the road - so all the poor koalas don't get run over! No one's ever actually seen one cross it though... maybe they're too stupid!
Australian motorways are also very thoughtful to tourists - they often have a "tourist" route on a sign, so if you live here and just want to get to work you ignore it, but if you've got time to play with, the sign shows you a turn off, the names of places you can see on that way, and how many km before it'll bring you back onto the motorway again! Brilliant!
In towns too, the signs are v helpful. You have signposts directing you to butchers, craft shops, art galleries, all on the same post as the street signs are.
Anyway - back to work the next day, and what with freelance work coming for the ex-boss in the UK, I've been working long days to get it all done. The money's good though - and I've just finished one huge project so am on for a break now!
Its raining a lot at the mo, but hopefully the sun will start taking over at somepoint!
Our shipment arrived on Wednesday and our car loan got approved too, so hopefully by the end of the coming week we'll both have cars, and we'll be house shopping as we need to rent something a little bigger! It was small enough when we only had 2 suitcases, but now we have 4 boxes too....
Anyway - next time I write I'll hopefully have a car and a new home! Watch this space...
