buenos aires, Argentina
Unemployed and homeless
Well we eventually arrived in Argentina! It wasn´t a smooth start, but that´s normal considering our travel history...
After a mad rush back in London to get our lives sorted, dramas with our flat and new tenants, meetings with solicitors to take our freeholder to tribunal, following up Sam´s Aussie visa (still no news), planning the SA trip and leaving our jobs and moving house...
...we had an amazing time catching up with our friends at our leaving party at The Windmill in London. It was amazing to see everyone, it was a fun day, many drinks consumed and few tears shed. We then toured England to see family from Southend, Manchester, Devon, calls to Oz - It´s been very difficult time for us to organise our lives and say our farewells to family. Everyone has been so suportive and we are blessed to have wonderful family and friends.
And so our journey began... En-route to the airport we had a near miss on the M4. A car, only five vehicles in front of us, flipped onto its roof. We were about 10 seconds away from a major crash. All the vehicles had to stop and there was a huge build up of traffic. Luckily, no one was hurt and we were able to pass by fairly quickly.
Surprisingly after our MAD rush to pack and leave for the airport (Sam´s mum was a god sent with everything - including drying our clothes that very morning!), we surprisingly arrived too early to check-in. Now this is unheard of... we are fashionably late for everything!!
The first leg of the flight was delayed and arrived late into Madrid, and we had to make a dash for the connecting flight to Santiago. Luckily we made it with minutes to spare.
Unluckily though, we were sat in front of a loud Chilean family transporting a dog, that whimpered the entire 11 hour trip (thank goodness for earplugs). We eventually arrived at Buenos Aires yesterday morning, 21 hours after we set off. To our dismay however, our bags were still in Madrid!!
The baggage handlers were not as quick as us at getting the connecting flight. We spoke to the airport staff and they assured us we will get our bags tomorrow afternoon. So we´ve now been in the same clothes for 2 days - YAY!
We arrived at Hostel Arrabal quite late. They have been great, supplying us with bedding, soap, towels etc, and we´ve now had a hot (ish) shower and a good night´s sleep. Pizza for dinner was divine!
We are looking on the bright side and have decided that these kind of ´mishaps´ are the kind of thing that makes a trip. So we´ve not seen any of BA yet. But Sam is planning a day full of adventures for us as I type!
HOW CAN I FORGET... the highlight of our trip so far was flying over the Andes on the border of Chile and Argentina. WOW! Incredibly dramatic snow capped jagged mountains - we´ve never seen anything quite like it. We were flying so close, as they are so high. We´ll upload some pics when we work out how to conenct the camera up.
Hopefully we´ll get our luggage (our lives) back today too. Don´t fly Iberia!!
Lots of love xxx
