Rome by day...Rome by night
The hot water heater broke last night in the hostel, so today began a little rough, but it picked up quickly when I took the Metro to St. Peter's Basilica and met up with my friend Honey. We stood in awe of the most grand and elaborate church on Earth. After we split a lovely lunch just outside the Vatican walls and said our goodbye. I hiked out to Castle d'Angelo and climbed to the top of the fortress with amazing views of Rome! This is also where they used to bring the Pope to keep him safe. There are all sorts of secret and trap doors, so I let my imagination run wild! Walked to Piazza Navona and loved the artwork, the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia and St. Maria's church where the famous Bocca of truth is at. I stuck my hand in and am proud to report it is still attached to my arm! Last I walked down the old chariot racetrack to the Mossimo Metro stop and made it back in time to talk to Kelly, pick up my washed/dried/folded laundry and meet up with my friends from Australia (Emma and Mathew)! That would have been a HUGE day in itself, but I had read about the Rick Steves' Night walk through Rome and didn't want to miss my chance to take a fun walk with friends. We took Metro to the Spanish steps, walked to the Trevi Fountain where we sat with a gelato, back through the Piazza Navona, on through ruins to Piazza Venezia and finally to the Colosseum! The night pictures are amazing! I can't wait to see them processed into HDR photos! I got back in time to take a nice HOT shower and am planning to sleep like a rock!
Tomorrow Plans: No Idea. Something in Rome. :)
