Hugh, Anne and Hector's Sailing Adventures
31st May 2005
Hi folks
Well Hugh wasn't joking; he is still assembling the boat as we sail! We didn't manage to leave Rhu on the 28th as planned. The weather was particularly vile gusting 42 knots of wind and torrential rain. Karen, Carol & Malcolm, Jerry, Saartje, Saskia and Jack came through to see us off - and we spent the afternoon huddled in the cabin drinking wine and eating, then we waved our guests off.
Sunday was a much better prospect and we sailed to Lamlash in sunshine and freezing cold winds. Monday we motored to Bangor in Northern Ireland. Hector, having found his sea legs went exploring some other boats in the marina (he seems to have a thing for large motor boats) - in other words I lost him! And he was only found when some people on another boat phoned the marina office to say that a white cat was marauding around the boat next to them! Needless to say I will be keeping a much closer eye on him from now on.
Today we are motor sailing down to Howth, which is just north of Dublin. The winds are too light to sail, and the air temperature is still freezing. We are really going to appreciate the warm south when we get there.
