...Back home
So I'm here then. Back in Blighty and hanging out in London attempting to reaclimatise for a few days until the big family reunion up north. Thought I'd use a suitably ePolitix style Big Ben pic for this entry, just for old times sake. Definitely one from the 'Generic' folder. Ah, those were the days...
And those days seem not nearly as long ago as they did when I was away from home. It's very strange being back and seeing my old life and surrounds laid out in front of me. Very strange indeed. And me being soooo cool and confident about my homecoming and going on to everyone about how great it was going to be and how ready I was for life to begin as normal again.... shows how much I know - it's rubbish! But then I was warned.
Well maybe I'm being a little harsh as I've already met up with some lovely super people from pre-travel life (some of whom may well be reading) and it's been soooo great to see everyone. But I have to say the shock of it all being over and me now reverting back to just being a regular being rather than an intrepid traveller being is massive; which I think is a good thing? Means I was even more relaxed and into the travel scene than I thought I was.
But honestly, even though I've now been back three days I can't be bothered to switch on the TV cos why would I? TV is just not necessary. I still have to buy my first newspaper, no bloddy idea what's going on in the news. I've just walked straight past Top Shop and not had the slightest inclination to walk in and have a look round. And I just flicked through Time Out magazine with complete disinterest. The post-travel symptoms are extreme it seems.
However, have drunk more cups of tea than is good for me and am still not bored of this activity. And have also sunk several pints in good old British pubs which has been pleasurable and comforting. Plus I think I've come home to the nicest weather of the British 'summer' so this is a huge morale boost, am not such a bad weather jinx afterall.
In a nutshell then, lovely to be back on home turf and see everyone, but much weirder to return to London and normal life than I ever thought it would be.
Feelings of sadness at getting off the place in Heathrow were definitely increased by the last week in Rio which was up there with the best weeks of the whole trip and ensured I left on a real high (and a great tan!) which was a big part of the reason I decided to end the trip in Rio (to end on a relaxed high, not to come home with a tan... Ok it is nice to come home looking healthy).
I really intended to compile a great and potentially witty list of all my highs and lows, bests and worsts etc, from around the world to make up my final blog entry, but due to a fair bit of jet lag and huge amounts of laziness, I haven't even got around to shortlisting. But, just to keep you all hanging on in there (the few of you remaining blog reading straggelers), I would like to do this for myself as much as anything, so give me a couple of days to get home and make friends with my laptop again and I'll put something together to bring closure once and for all on the travels and the blog.
Gosh, feeling really rather emotional now.... Right off to the pub to take the edge off and bore more poor souls about my big adventure.
