Hi, thought we'd have a day exploring the Tuscan countryside. We drove to Sienna and Volterra, both amazing medieval villages. We found them quite incredible to walk around. Most of the buildings were built well before Australia was discovered by the Europeans, most in the 1100's. Driving through Tuscany there are beautiful wild flowers by the road, vivid red poppies, yellow flowers, purple irises, and many others. The countryside is full of a variety of green, from olives to vineyards to crops, to forests with deer. We have seen the warning signs for deer in France and Italy and are yet to spot one! Lunch in Volterra is lovely, it is where they mine alabaster, needless to say I purchased a few items.
We arrive back to The apartment in Porto Ercole to torrential rain. Time to chill out then head to La Caravaggio restaurant where Lucca is the chef and cooks us an amazingly delicious dinner then plies us with home made limonchella. It is beautiful. We are the only two in the restaurant as anyone who is Italian is home watching the championship soccer game between Milano and Juventus, who have won and become champions of Italy. We can hear much tooting and loud celebrations as we get ready for bed.
Another wonderful and relaxing day on our holiday!
Ciao!
