Wednesday 7 May
Miami, Florida
Journey to Heathrow wasn't too bad despite rush hour traffic past Reading! Nick decided to drop me off at Terminal 3 with the bags and then go to the car park as we had 4 suitcases plus hang luggage. Unfortunately it decided to tip it down just as we arrived. I only had to load the bags on a trolley and push it about 100 yards but I got drenched! The sort of drenched where it is literally dripping off the ends of your hair! Not a good look when you are travelling upper class!
So I waited for Nick trying to dry off and then we checked in. No queue for upper class and then a lift to the fast-track security check. It was great! Through in no time and straight to Duty Free for Baileys and perfume for me ( just run out!). Then we headed for the Virgin Clubhouse lounge. It is huge and quite futuristic. There are lots of different areas; a bar, a dining area, soft seats, an office area, a beauty salon, shoe shine, pool table, TV area.
Had cooked breakfast and noticed the man next to us was having champagne with his! Stuck to the orange juice and coffee though! Then I went to ask about the complimentary hair treatments. Decided to have reconditioning treatment including a head massage by a nice young man! Oh and finally succumbed to a glass of champagne while my conditioner soaked in. Then a blow dry so I no longer looked like a drowned rat!
No queuing up in the departure lounge either! Straight on and another glass of champagne! Comfy, wide seats and lots of gadgets and buttons including turning the seat into a flat bed complete with pillow, duvet and mattress topper! Loads of the latest films available and as you looked through them you could put them in your favourites! I ended up with 7 so the flight wasn't long enough!
Great food, proper plates and cutlery, a bar you could sit at and have a drink... All very civilised! And as each seat is on its own no need to disturb anyone if you want to go for a wander! And although I didn't have a proper sleep with it being a daytime flight it was great being able to stretch out flat and get your feet up!
Being let off the plane first in Miami also cut off about an hour off the time it took us to get through immigration and customs last year as we were at the front of the queue rather than the back! Bags were waiting for us and no queue at the car hire place either! The hotel was only 10 minutes from the airport so we were checked in and swimming in the outdoor pool in no time! It is really warm here (30+ degrees) so bliss swimming outside in the evening and it still feeling warm when you got out. Planes were coming in to land over our hotel so floating in the pool and watching the huge planes 'skim' the roof of our hotel was quite spectacular! Had a bite to eat in the hotel then an early night (or very late night on UK time!).
