Hey everyone so its been a while and I am in a new country so I have quite a bit to fill you in on. Last time I was just off to see the yellow eyed penguins they were pretty cool and we manged to get quite close to them they are so cute how they waddle. The next day was the long drive day we left Dunedin and headed for Kaikoura on the way we visited the worlds steepest street which was pretty steep indeed and also saw these big boulder things which have randomly formed on a coast which were cool. Also stopped at another penguin place and got to see the small blue penguins which were cute. Then we just drove and drove we werent planning on getting all the way to kaikoura in one day but we managed. As we turned up late we ended up sleeping at a random carpark which a local said was okay.
Next day I went whale watching and I got to see sperm whales and saw the dive down which was cool. The rest of teh day was just spent wondering around town and then went for a fish supper. Then came the day I was waiting for swimming with the dolphins I was soo excited. We got there and headed out on the boat it was a bit of a rush as the winds were bad and annoyingly the wind got to bad and we had to turn around and I was sooo gutted. We decided that we would stay another day and try again tomorrow as we all really wanted to do it and it was totally worth it. The next day we went out and we found hundreds of dusky dolphins and they just swam all around us it was the most incredable experience. We were told to sing to them and all i could think of was Hey Jude I must have sounded like an idiot but the dolphins loved it. There were just soo many of them totally amazing it was well worth the wait. Then it was a mad rush as we had to return the campervan that day in Christchurch so we hit the road staright away and powered to Christchurch but we had to fill up the gas and things which slowed us down but we hada nice guy who let us check it in that day so we didnt get charged thankfully.
We didnt get much time in Christchurch but everyone said there wasnt much to do so we hada evening there and then flew out the next day and we headed for Ausralia the land of Captain Cook. The flight was fine and we sat next to a local so we got some information of him which was good. We began in Melbourne where we had a few days to sort out everything like how we were going to travel and what we could fit in which was good. Then we visited Queen Victoria market and did the free tram ride around the city and just generally took it all in. We were staying in St Kilda so I saw Luna park and the beach but it wasnt that warm there. Due to buses we had to move on sooner than we wanted and we had a 3 day tour to Sydney whcih was cool as we went to Wilsons Promotory Park and I got too hundreds of kangaroos, emus and a wombat whcih was cool. Then we went to the snowy mountains and saw snow which i wasnt expecting from Australia. Then it was birthday and we drove to Canberra which I actually thought was quite nice looking but we just did a quick tour and then went on to Sydney. I went out for Thai food as it was birthday and had a night out with people on my bus which was nice.
The next day was exciting as I got to see the Sydney Opera house and Harbour bridge which was awesome. We spent ages just taking pictures and walking across the bridge. Then we went to manly beach by ferry so that we could come back at night and get some of the best views of Sydney Harbour at night which was stunning. Following day was miserable weather but we went to darling harbour and botanical gardens. Very unexpectedly we got cheap tickets to see the Opera in the Sydney Opera house which was just crazy. I loved it it as The Girl from the west and was very different but I loved it and we had really good seats even though we paid for standing tickets. We are having to go so fast so we had to move on again and today we headed to a place called Spot X where we had a surf lesson which was fun I actually managed to stand up and catch a wave even if we did have massive beginner boards it was a lot of fun. Now we have arrived in Byron bay and it was miserable weather last night but we got some proper sunny weather today and the beach is beautiful white sand so we have had a relaxing time wondering around the beach and in town which has been nice.
Hope that gives you an idea of the amin things I have been up to. Hope everyone is well and I will be home in just over a month :) x x
