Hey everyone this is going to be my last blog for a long while as I am off volunteering soon which I a so excited about I can´t wait to play with the monkies.
So I was just about to go to the islands on Lake Titicaca last time I wrote I had an awesome time. We first of all went to the floating islands made of sraw called Uros. They were really interesting as we learnt how they make them and got to have a look aroung. The floor was really springy it was just odd being on these islands and that people could just float on if they didnt get on with their neighbours. Then we went to the permanent island Amanti where we were given a mother and family to look after us. We helped them cook lunch and tried to talk to them with our limited Spanish even though they spoke Quecha. They were really nice esecially the daughter Francisca who looked after us most. Then we watched a bit of a local football game before walking to the top of the island to see the view and learn about the inca ruin. In the evening we had tea with the family and then we got dressed up in the traditional clothing which I absolutely loved. We had like 2 skirts on and a decorated shirt with a waist band thing which was very tight. It looked a little strange on me as the skirt camne up a lot higher on me as they are much shorter but i still loved it. Then they put on a little dance so we met up with our group and all danced to local music. It was a bit crazy how we ran around the room all holding hands practically bumbing into each other. It was very hot under all the layers but I had so much fun. The next day it was an early start to get to the third island Taquile where we got to walk around the island and take in the spectacular scenery. The lake is just so immense you just kept calling it the sea as it was soo big. Then we headed back to Puno knackered but happy.
Then we had a couple of days just relaxing and lookin around not that there is a great deal to see in Puno but with the bus strikes on we couldnt cross to Bolivia. The hostel we were staying at was really nice and we met cool people so time passed by quick. We even had an orange party to celebrate the dutch queen very random but fun. I also learnt how to make the local drink Pisco sours very yummy.
The bus to La Paz was interesting with the strike on as we had to take odd routes over fields and down dirt tracks but it just made for more of an adventure. At one point there was a blockade that we had to go round and we got stuck in the gravel. So we all had to get off the bus and hope they could move it which made it much more of an interesting journey even though it did take a lot longer. We finally arrived in La Paz and we had some trouble finding a hostel but we found one in the end. Then yesterday we just went for a look around and did some souvenir shopping and also booked to bike ride down the most dangerous road in the world which should be fun just need to keep hold of the brakes. Then we went to see Chileta wrestling whicg was very strange but entertaining. It was Bolivian woman wrestling with men but it is all an act but it was fun to watch a very different experience. Then today we went to the main p'laza in the picture and the coca museum to learn all about it. That about brings you up to date wish me luck for tomorrow and it will be a while till the next update as I am off to play with the monkies yay. Miss you all x x
