Day 2 from San Francisco...
Today we went downtown and were intending to go to Alcatraz. We arrived at the ticket stations just as one of the employees was changing the sign to no tickets left today. b*****! We weren't too bothered tho as we weren't originally going to Alcatraz. Instead we headed to the bus stop & jumped on another Big Bus tour. As we waited we noticed the old Electric railway - restored from the 50's. very cool looking trams. Interesting that San Fran was trying to avoid all the 'ugly' electrical wiring that comes with the electric trams but gee do they have it now. Would NOT want to be a flying fox in that street let me tell you!
Also on our way up the hill we saw the lineup for the Cable car which we were on yesterday. holy dooley the line must have been 100 metres long and we were very grateful we rode the cable car yesterday even if it was in the rain.
The tour guides on the San Fran hop on hop off bus weren't as good as the guy in vegas but it wasn't too bad. We hopped off at the Golden Gate Bridge to get a closer look. Wow. It was really good to see and there was lots history info on the bridge. We bought a coffee probably the worst to date. We threw them away. Yuk
Once we got back to Pier 39 we headed to Bubba Gumps for a bite to eat (a recommendation from home) it was great! Really great food, good service and it was nice to bring back so many Forest Gump memories. Our waitress played some Gump trivia with us until our meals came. They were right into it and the movie was on replay at the bar.
Just like the movie they had all kinds of shrimp on the menu but we decided on just a plain old American burger as we have shrimp back home.
After our late lunch we walked the wharf watching the street performers with their 10 instruments/1person band thing and took some photos of the giant seagulls! Never seen a gull quite that big before.
We decided to head back early in the direction of our bus so we don't have to rush as much as last night. It was a little early but I was tired and wanted to go home. Along the way we were approached by a homeless fellow (one of soooo many) who mentioned he just woke up in the park. Apparently he is trying to start his music career here in San Francisco. Not sure how that will go for him as we could hardly hear him speak & most of the entertainment industry like a few more than 3 teeth. He was chasing some money but unfortunately we didn't have any...;)
So we went to another bar to pass the time. We watched the basketball on one tv and the baseball on the other. San Francisco is a non gambling city so most people actually drink at the bar which is a nice change. The bar tender tonight doesn't speak much English, the couple to our left were ponging of Dope smell and the 2 women to our right were like 2 squabbling chooks. It was a little drull in the bar. Until the entertainment really arrived. A well dressed but very intoxicated lady arrived in the bar. She turns to mick and says I know you, proceeded to come over and attempted to give him a kiss on the cheek until security came and took her away. Haha I was giggling in the corner. He wanted to run but couldn't. It was really pretty tragic he tells me she smelt like a brewery. Ikky.
Heading off in the morning :)
