We touch down in Santa Cruz, Bolivia after a very smooth and easy flight, didn't get much sleep but I'm not too tired as it's only about 2am on the Friday. We both steam thru the immigration and collect our bags fairly quickly. The customs is an absolute joke, might aswell have high fived us an told us to enjoy Bolivia! We pass thru get some money from the ATM and after hearing all the horror stories about dodgy taxis, go get a taxi from a registered taxi company. First impresion of Bolivia is a bit of a s*** hole but that's what's I expected. We arrive in at the hostel after taking some rather dodgy looking roads but the hostel seems quite secure and the guy is expecting us, let's us in and we check in fine. After the taxi etc we feel abit awake so have a beer to chill out, 20 bolivianos! That's like 2 quid for a can! I thought bolivia was cheap! We sit down with the beer and re asses our situation which has literally just pisses all over our parade! Maybe it's cheaper in town so we go to bed optimistic town will be cheaper. When we wake up the amazingness of the hostel hits us as w see the huge pool in the centre of the hostel. The sun is beaming aswell so we go for a dip. Afterwards we head towards town, it's quite a trek as our hostel is in a s*** hole but we go for it anyways. We discover that the street food is cheap cheap cheap so fill up for about a quid. Excited by Bolivia we're determined to go out tonight so our primary objective is to find a supermarket for some pre drinks. With this accomplished we head into town for a mooch. No joke, the town centre is full of opticians, sports shops and electrical shop. (insert joke about traksuit wearing four eyes with iPods). The town isnt really that happening so we head back past the super Market to get the predrinks. On the way back Dyson nips in for a shave, by this time in the trip my hair is a thick mop and it's getting on my nerves having to deal with it every morning so I take the plunge and get it shaved! Bottling the grade 2 I go for a grade 3 and it's sooooo nice to have the mop off, so cool as well (in both senses of the word may I add). We grab some Bacardi and head back to the hostel and get our drink on. An Israeli soon joins us followed by another guy, THE most annoying Canadian girl ever and three british girls that didn't want to get drunk. After about 3 hours we all go out, even thou it is essentially just me and dice (minus the sacks, annoying people and non drinkers). We end up at a bar called Ganesh, a grimy little thing with expensive beers and good music. The locals are well friendly and me a dice even get invited into the VIP area behind the decks for some reason. We leave there early morning and head back to the hostel to carry on the party till the early hours. Next morning, well afternoon when I woke up I was dying so the day consisted of swimming and watching Jason Statham movies in the tv room on bean bags all night. The hostel was well equipped for hangovers. One the Sunday we woke up a little more alive, had a mooch into town and went to get our bus ticket which we got massively ripped off with... Welcome to Bolivia! We went back and chilled at the hostel and spend the evening chatting to people that were doing the opposite way round so had already done la Paz, Peru, salt flats and the mines etc. This got me buzzing for the grittier part of Bolivia.
