We spent three days in Uruguay, Chloe has family from here so it was just myself and Jess for the next few days. I am not going to break it down day by day, we spent the first two days in Punta Del Esta and then took the hours bus ride to Montevideo where we spent one night, we then met back up with Chloe and took the ferry over to Buenas Aires!
PUNTA DEL ESTA
This is the St Tropez of South America, a lot of Americans also go there on holiday. The day we arrived it was quite overcast so Jess and I put on the finest clothes that our backpacks had to offer and went to shop. Shops in Punta del Esta are as follows, Gucci, Channel, Ralf Lauren, Louis Vuitton etc needless to say not one penny was spent but we had fun pretending that we had some to spend.
The biggest and best casino in South America is also here so we visited that one evening, gambling a total of one dollar each on the slots and then took to watching the rich part with their cash while sipping yummy cocktails!!
The rest of the time was spent on the beach and generally just hanging out, there are no big sightseeing attractions so it was just a time to chill, we did however on our 2nd day carry out a three hour walk as were beginning to feel slightly sluggish after all the food and drink. We walked through some beautiful residential areas with can you believe it thached cottages!!! Felt very at home.
MONTEVIDEO
Described by Lonely Planet as a bit tired looking, I would have to disagree. Very cosmopolitan with some beautiful buildings. Just one night here so just walked the city and took in the atmosphere. Stayed in the best hostel of our trip, wante to pack it up and take it with me. We left Uruguay by ferry on the 22nd.
I was not planning to visit Uruguay before I met the girls but was pleased I did. When I used to think of Uruguay I imagined it to be maybe a little backwood, sort of chickens running in the streets etc, my opinion is now very different, a very developed country (well the bits we visited) with charming people.
