Abi here. WE'VE MADE IT TO ZAMBIA!! Got through Mozambique without any trouble with flooding, although there was the mention of a cyclone while we were staying in Vilankulo. I'm sure it's been in the news but i think it went through Madagascar last week. all travel lately has been by mini bus or chappa which involves squeezing as many people (and chickens) as possible into one vehicle. Some lady had a chicken in a plastic bag the other day in the seat infront of us and it broke free and starting spazzing under neath the seat...Then an old man shat his pants and almost killed the rest of the bus...I'll never complain about travelling in our mini van again.... Traveled all day yesterday from Tete to Lusaka. (Zambia) We started at 8, then the chappa we were in told us we had to get out, so they dumped us and our bags in the middle of B.F nowhere. It was this tiny little village on the edge of the highway and all the villagers formed a big circle around us and just stared.......... creepy. Then some little boy came up and started poking at us with a stick! Luckily a delivery truck drove by that supplies all the little villages along the road so they offered us a ride to the border. So up on the flour and beer we sat. Made it across the border no problem then had a taxi ride, and a 10 hour bus ride that eventually landed us in Lusaka for 2 a.m. The roads here suuuuuuuuck. Edson has nothing on Zambia's highways. I think the average speed for the trip was about 20km/hr because of all the potholes. But were all in better spirits today because Lusaka has everything we could want, including a Mr. Price, and subway...although it proved to dissapoint this afternoon (Thats right we caved) Anyways were unsure as to whether the vegetables were washed in tap water, only time will tell....
Bought our bus tickets to Livingston tomorrow...had people practically climbing in the cab as soon as we arrived at the station trying to sell us tickets. Went out to a bar last night that had a dancefloor over a pool, and they played aqua. Sometimes you feel like you've never even left home!
Already having conversations about the first thing we'll eat when we get home. Milks definately the top of my list...Long life UHT just doesnt do it for me.
Hope everyones well, Good luck with all your midterms everyone!!
