Week 1 in Sydney.
Day 1 in Sydney and where better to start than on Sydney Harbour? Absolutely Spectacular; with it's sparkling harbour waters, pristine skyline and cosmopolitan feel; it's difficult
not to fall in love with this place!
Feeling quite jetlagged, we decided to take a stroll back to our hostel in King's Cross (quite possibly the roughest area in Australia) - but walking through the Royal Botanic Gardens, with a
breathtaking view of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, a nap right there was irresistable. Big Mistake. Serious sunburn in under an hour. Not a pretty sight clearly, when at 3am that morning
when the fire alarm sounded, comments like "f***, you're red" were common.
Day 2 in Sydney. To be honest, Sydney's Chinatown doesn't come close to Singapore's so soon after. Afternoon was spent on Darling Harbour, known as the 'city's playground' with its vast range of
attractions, from museums to shops and dining. Day was spent lounging on the harbour and bathed in warm sunshine; i had tingles, i love this place. Cockle Bay Wharf is home to an alluring array of
restaurants, bars, cafes and night clubs; it is here that we will spend our last night in Sydney, but something is telling me that I'll never want to leave. On today's walk home we were attracted to
Hyde Park, with it's beautiful view of St Mary's Cathedral and the Archibald fountain, we sat for hours rather than returning to the hostel... perfect! -x-
New Year's Eve 2007 - Sydney -x- The two hour queing at 9am and another 13 hours in pure heat was all worth it at midnight in the Royal Botanic gardens next to Sydney Harbour. In all honesty, the
whole day was a pleasure. Ben (Chris' friend) and his friend Robin were kind enough to invite us to join them. The four of us had a fantastic day, taking it in turns to have shade breaks and que at
the bar. Having watched Sydney seeing the new year in each year on TV, the real thing lived up to all expectations. Just spectacular. Poor Ben managed to survive all day but fell asleep at approx.
11.50pm and became as much a photo attraction as the opera house itself for those around us. Happy New Year everyone. I did cry, quite uncontrollably, when I realised I wasn't going to be with you
anytime soon.
We spent the next two days on Bondi and Manly Beach. In Sydney, you're never too far from a plunge in the Pacific Ocean supposedly; apart from the two days that I choose to visit: conditions were
'unsafe'- according to lifeguards - so the beaches were closed. Still, there are few experiences that compare to the view of the golden sand, turquoise waters, and huge waves of Australia.
Personally, I preferred Manly, where cafes and boutique shops are plentiful; I can see a Valentino cafe here one day. The journey to Manly itself is an attraction, ferry from Circular Quay, and back
at sunset!
With our burning passion for some good italian food, we found ourselves on Darling Harbour on our last night before one last drink at the Opera Bar and another few on George Street. Goodbye
Sydney- I'll miss you.
