Hey!!!
Sorry its been so long again since our last blog. Ok, so last time i think we had just done the power boat TRIP and the opera house tour in sydney...so much has happened since!
The next day we headed back into Sydney and decided to have a ganders around the rocks, basically an area of the city by the docks (old buildings and lots of pubs). There was a market on so we decided to have a little look around, it got a little chilly (obv we were in shorts and t-shirt). We headed in the direction of the pubs and passed a german bar with an ocktober festival....oh dear. We headed in there for one quick drink at around 1.30pm. We left at around 2.30am, after a lunch, dinner and way to many german beers...lets just say sunday was written off (i was slightly ill).
On the monday we took the train from sydney to the blue mountains, they were stunning. There really is a blue haze given off from the eucalyptus, the sights are increadible. After another day of wondering around sydney, taking many pictures of the bridge and opera house we thought its time to go, but just before we did we had a dozen oysters from the oyster bar and a glass of wine which had the views of the bridge and the opera house...wow. We left Uncle Petes on wednesday, obviously joined him for a couple in his local before leaving, we could just about face the drink by then and took the over night bus to Melbourne.
Melbourne is so much different to the rest of Australia, it really feels like europe/home. It was cold and there were nice coffee shops everywhere, which were welcomed due to the temperature. There are a few cool sights, including a free tourist tram (fave word is free) which we went on and a pixar exhibition. Whilst in Melboure we met up with a girl that we met on the fraser island trip, she showed us a couple of bars..might as well have a few sociable beverages! Beer beer beer...
The hostel in melbourne was really nice, it felt quite homely and the people there were friendly.
The best part of Melbourne was going to the neighbours set. We visited the street, studios and school, but best of all we got to meet the legend that is Susan Kennedy, she is really nice...many pics were taken dont you worry.
After a fun packed six weeks it was sadly time to leave OZ, so we boarded the plane for New Zealand. What a shock when we got off the plane...brrrrr, its cold. We picked up our campervan (to be honest its a car with a sink and bed/table), but it does the job and it is home at the mo. We had a wonder around Christchurch and headed for the supermarket to get some cheap fleeces and thick socks!
We have been driving for the last few days, going through Arthurs pass. We stopped here for the night, went on a couple of walks up mountains, visited a place called Springfield (as in the simpsons) it had a massive doughnut welcoming you into the village!
We parked the car next to a lake for the night, really pretty snow peaked mountains etc. There was an amazing thunder and lightning storm during the night which lasted hours, but in true Bryn & Ryan style we left the radio on to long and some how the battery went dead...Ooops. The next morning we had to try and wave people down to help us, some nice local woman stopped and charged us up (thank god she knew how to use jump leads ;-)).
We have decided not to use the radio when the engine is off (this is the third vehicle we have had in the last 7 weeks that it has happened to, when will we learn?). Last night we stayed by the beach on the west coast so we could see the sun go down, the waves were huge, the sound of crashing waves is great for sending you to sleep! This morning we had fried eggs on toast on the pebbles, Nice.
Today we are at the Frans Josef Glacier, wow! We got a helicopter to take us to the top of the glacier, what a way to travel! Helicopters are amazing, we were on it for 10 minutes and on top of the mountain for ten minutes... words fail, the snow was so deep and untouched (a little different to OZ).
Thats all for now, I hope you are all ok
Love Bryn and Ryan xx
