Ok. So we arrived in Cambodia without paying the dreaded 'service charge'requested by the amazing immigration officials. Yes I argued with the immigration officer and the scammy tuk tuk driver. They arent going to get me. Janec thought he'd have to do all the arguing but little did he remember that I detest being scammed more than anything. SO i had none of it....
There will be an entire blog done on this just to make sure nobody falls for the scams as they try alot.
Anyway we got here and one thing that helped was that we met a couple on the bus from Belgium who we agreed to share a taxi with to Siem Reap. When we seperated we later we also agreed to meet for dinner that evening.
WE got to our guesthouse which was perfect for our needs. We headed back into town to meet our taxi mates for dinner. I had my first Amok and some cheap beer. Yay! Davy and Jasmeine had organised a tuk tuk for the net day to go to Angkor. They asked us if we would like to join adn we agreed.
We set off at 9am firslty Angkor Wat (which was immense - no picture can show just how immense and awe inspiring). We then headed off on the grand tour which covered Prasat Kravat (a small brick temple as oppsed to stone), Banteay Kdei, Sras Srang (not a temple but the royal swimming pool), Pre Rup (a tall climable very scary to get down building), EAst Mebon, Ta Som, Preah Neak Pean, Preah Khan and then Angkor Thom. All templed out, we headed home meeting the guys for tea that night, another amok.
Today we decided not to temple and to do very little which we did remarkably well. We got up late ate breakfast when we should have had lunch, had afternoon drinks and ate ice cream. In the evening we headed for the night market and got some food, meeting our temple buddies before they headed off to Phnom Penh.
Our third, Day 2 Angkor, saw us cycle the small tour. THe Little Circuit is 17 km long but we also had to ride to and back so overall about 25km. We covered Ta Prohm (the tombraider temple- going to be honest not sure how lara croft raided these temples without getting smelly and sweaty), Ta Keo, Chau Say Trevoda, and finally Angkor THom for some proper investigation. It was a beautiful day and the temples were absolutely stunning. Janec had decided his favourite was Bayon (the one with all the stone faces).
Today we organised a Tuk Tuk so we could go to Banteay Srei(the citadel of women- so called for its beautiful carvings which are so fine and small size, it was beautiful in pink sandstone), We then went to Bayon and Angkor Wat as they need more time they are so huge.
Temple raiding is hard work, sweaty and smelly. Not for vertigo sufferers (which I am) but luckily Im so stubborn I wasn't going to let that stop me and only for the fit even with a tuk tuk. So I congratulated myself at the end of day 3 with some $1 cocktails and some $0.50 beer. Yay!
Our final temple saw us at Bakheng on a hill looking over Angkor and watching the sun go down. Beautiful, the temples are fabulous and definately one of those see before you die things. I want to go back but for now I've raided the temples and on to Phnom Penh.
