We are now pretty relaxed in Brussels - staying with Peter, Klara and Alicia. Familiarity with where you are and being able to get around, access things and practise some pretty average Francois is good.
Our travel up and across was not without some drama - losing a package at Melbourne Airport and getting ripped off by a taxi driver in Shanghai - these incidents are helping us realize our limitations as travellers. In strange cities pre-arranged airport transfers may well be the future for us. In the hustle of travelling thru airports we are absolutely fully occupied keeping up with what we are supposed to be put into a tray thru a scanner etc.
Shanghai was pretty amazing for us - to see the difference since 1988 - just 23 years ago we were last there! Highlights were the spectacular new skyscrapers, a chinese meal in a traditional Chinese restaurant - Sichuan style - with the 'sticks' and the Maglev train from the Pudong Airport into town.
Disappointments/frustrations were our lack of concentration so we were an easy ttarget and getting to use free wi-fi, which often required a chinese email address and mobile phone number. The travel across from. Shanghai to was comfortable and quite easy. Luftansa is a very fine airline to travel with if first impressions are anything to go by.
Coffee is good here in Ixelle - one of 12 cities of Brussels - very easy to get into the city centre - by tram or bus or a 25 minute walk. And best of all 4 sidewalk cares/bars outside the front door 31.5 metres to the right.
This weekend off to Amsterdam to see Klara's family and the to Barneveldt (not far from Amsterdam) to see friend Jan and Josse.
