Having seen a great deal of what Western Australia had to offer, we had now arrived at our final destination. Very diffrerent to the rest of the west coast, Perth is a busy little city, with less greenery than we were used to, (and less spiders and snakes too!!) Never the less, it was beautiful: the people, the food and our experiences.
We started off the weekend visiting the Red Bull Air Race. It was fantastic, with lots of tricks by relatively small fighter jets! Now that we can upload pictures, I will add mine on when i return home in August!
That night, I manged to convince Dip that it was a good idea to eat Thai food. She reluctantly agreed, and later wished she hadn't! Lets just say she vows never to come again! I enjoyed it, as usual!
Talking of fine dining, our next 'tour' was our winery one! I'm not much of a wine drinker, so i was happy washing down anything that came my way (usually half the size of Dip's) with the cheese and crackers provided! Dips' shots got larger and larger as i poured them, she gulped them down quicker and quicker, and then i had to help her into the bus! She wasn't as bad as some of the other Brits on the bus who were completely wasted, 'singing' along to the songs and giggling with the our more senior driver! The last part of this trip was spent at Perth Zoo, where we had a chance to get clse to the 'roos, and feed them. They're so cute! I also held a wallabee! Don't be fooled, it's a lot heavier than it looks (imagine cute little baby on your lap, now add his dad to it!) I can hear some of you saying 'hmmm..... actually that doesn't sound so bad...!!!'
My penultimate trip was whale watching! Trust me when i say i just don't learn when it comes to sitting on a boat. The sea was at about 15 knots, and although it was a big vessel, i get hugely sea sick! I just about managed to bear up for the 2 hour round trip, but felt it was wasted because we never saw any whales! The morning group spotted quite a few, they would. Well we got a half tprice ticket for next time, but of course there won't be one because we're leaving for Alice Springs tomorrow.
Wait!!!! Before i go, i must share my best Perth experience. Having been to the Fremantle ('Freo') Markets, Dip and i had also stopped off in a shop called Didgeridoo Breath as i wanted to make/ paint my own didge. Anyway, the fab people here asked me to flex my muscles... Hmm.... not much there... and they politely said it might be a bit difficult, but it would be great if i painted! Great! i was hooked and decided to go back the next day.
When i arrived, i chose the didge and one of the guys, Sanshi, set me up with all the paints. He also gave me a tee, so i thanked him and began to put it on, over my clothes.... As i did this, he informed me that its real use is to wipe off any paint that i'm not happy with on my didge!!!! The tee slowly came back over my head!! Embarrasment!!! Anyway, that was the end of any formalities that may have taken place! Soon after, the other guys who worked there came by and said 'hi', as did customers who chilled with me on the sofa as i painted (some thought i was one of the artists!!! Yeahy!!) Levi, one of the artists came along and sat with me too, and painted on the didge which was good. He's great looking too! All in all, the atmosphere was fab and this was all becasue of the people who worked there- they're so easy going, ready to help, and just such a laugh!
Next leg of my Oz trip: Alice Springs and Uluru tour - (back to spiders and snakes amongst other things!!)
