So without meaning to, I seem to have landed on a cross between an East Africa 18-30 holiday and Channel 4's Coach Trip. There are a few variances; (a) there are no evictions (b) it's more 18-35 (c) there haven't been any bad party games (yet) (d) there are too many daily truck chores and (e) a low quotient of Chavs (so far) but this is where the differences stop
The campsite in Jinja was in a truly stunning setting against a backdrop of the wild white water of the River Nile. Elton gave us a tour of the big yellow truck that was to be our home for the next six weeks. The truck is simply enormous, lots of seats each with a locker underneath to stow daypacks, huge open air windows that can be opened when needed and covered by tie down plastic windows otherwise, a big fridge for food and a chiller for beers. Underneath the seating area there is storage for water canisters, our luggage, tents, thick sleeping mattresses, trays of food and super size military style cooking equipment.
Before it got dark, Elton provided us with a demo of how to erect our tents and then we put them up ourselves which although the tents look like something out of a museum (steel poles and canvas covers) are pretty straightforward to assemble. However, it was light and dry and I sense fun to come taking them down in the pissing rain. A lot of drinking followed camp dinner before spending the first night in our tents. I am still paranoid of these mosquitos. I am not dying from a fly.
I'm going rafting tomorrow on some grade 5 rivers. I have never rafted before so I shall post on that soon.
Take a look at the photo uploaded. This is Ugandas birth control strategies..
