Well it's been a while since the last one but I will do my best to update you on my progress since the last post.
Well the day after I left you (26th May) the three of us (Phil, Alex and myself) picked up the hire car for two days and decided to embark on the 800km round trip in two days to Kl so Alex got to see some of the capital before he left as he was unable to alter his flights. We shared the driving between us and finally arrived. When we got there we went to the Aquarium, where we saw some fish, reptiles and spiders of varying kinds and was relatively interesting (luckily the camera batteries ran out too!). Then we got some dinner at Pizza hut before finding a hostel to stay the night. We then went out for a few bevies in numerous locations as we embarked on a card playing marathon until about 2am in the morning!
The next day after trying to get a time slot at the Petronas Towers we went to KL Tower instead and it had amazing views. We then spent a little time going round the shops and walking round the city (while trying to find the car) before heading back up to Penang.
We woke late the next morning and watched 'Goal 2' we really have purchased too many DVD's between us! We then headed into Georgetown (capital of the area) for a while and got some food and I was shocked to hear my brother had had a car crash so spent some time on the phone to home to make sure everything was alright. We eventually headed back on the bus and relaxed in the pool for a while before watching yet another film! haha
It was raining again the next morning (29th May) so didn't head into Batu Ferrenghi (local town) until the afternoon to use the internet and get some food. As the internet time revealed the dates Phil could get us accomodation in KL we then headed into Georgetown to try and successfully managed to book a bus across to the Perinthian Islands for the next evening, while Alex packed up his stuff. On our return we went back into Batu for dinner at Long Beach (a food court with all the local cuisine at a very reasonable price), then back for the common routine of a late night swim and a film!
Alex left us the next morning getting a taxi at 5.30am from the appartment. And found he had safely arrived in KL on re-wakening about 9.30, via a text. Then the rest of the day was mostly filled with cleaning and washing of clothes and sheets but we managed a brief trip into Batu and a swim as well. We then headed into Georgetown to give back the appartment keys, get some food and pick up our bus (and played cards in McDonalds for a second time in the last two weeks, to kill some time while we waited). When we got on the bus we were surprised but pleased to see we would be traveling in style! The bus was air conditioned with huge seats and there was only 10 or so of us on a bus built for 26!
We arrived in Kuala Besut about 5am the next morning (31st) and got the first boat across at 7am to the small Island of the two (called Kecil). We then found some cheap accomodation in a beach hut for RM 35 a night - we gota double bed a well used mosquito net and a fan but it did us fine. Then after a bit of searching to find the most suitable place I bought a PADI Open Water Diving course and was started by 11am(ish)!
I spent the next three days (31st-2nd) doing my course on the Island and relaxed on the beach when I wasn't doing anything towards it and in the evenings. All in all I had 4 dives (1 with Phil as well) and saw all sorts including sharks and giant turtles, it really was amazing! The water was crystal clear and the beaches were white and sandy; for a lot of people this would be heaven (apart from a few mossies of course)! We spent the evenings relaxing by the beach and in one of the restaurants where they played movies while you ate/drank. I even ate some stingray one night - just to say I'd tried it, but I won't be doing it again its exceedingly boney and not that flavourful to be honest.
We left the Island early on the morning of the 3rd on the 8am boat and were on a minibus (just the two of us) bound for the Cameron Highlands by 10am. We stopped for lunch and changed minibus, being joined by four others for the second half of the journey and finally arrived at about 4pm. We then checked in after our tour of the guest house at which it was assumed we would stay by our minibus driver! (luckily it is cheap and comfortable so we were happy to stay!) We then headed into town for a bit before coming back and relaxing in the lounge area for the evening and deciding what we would do over the next week or so. We then headed to bed and got a fairly good nights rest.
We got up about 8am this morning (4th) and after showers and breakfast were embarking on our walk about 9.45. the walk itself was relatively short but grueling - the ascent and descent were ridiculously steep and the weather pretty humid so we were sweating something silly! We eventually arrived back 1.15pm and I got showered and wrote some postcards and stuff for home while I waited for Phil on the internet. We then headed into Tanah Rata (the local town) to post the letters and get some lunch before heading back to the guest house so I could use the internet and that's as far as I've got.
Hope this is satisfactory for all you readers - I know its brief but if you want to know anything more about any of it just drop me an email/message/facebook and I'll see what I can do!
All for now R x
