Roy and Jo's Journal
Well its now my turn to write an entry! After Saturday, when we (that is, I) slept an awful lot, we got up on Sunday and headed to Time Square to meet up with my camp friends. After wandering the shops, we met up with Helen, Ashley, Leonie, Kasey, MaryKate, Carly, Becky, Vanessa and Maria at the Hard Rock cafe. For Ashley's birthday we had a picnic in Central Park which was lovely, then Roy and I walked through the park to try and find the Natural History Museum. We saw some great sights, then realised we were at the wrong side of the park, so walked all the way back in the heat, only to find that the museum was closed! We settled for a movie (Pirates 2 - again!) then back to the hostel for more sleep!
Monday was the tourist day! We started at Madison Square Gardens, then hit Macy's, Empire State Building (very anticlimactic), the UN, NY Public Library, Grand Central Station, Chrysler building and the Rockefeller Centre. The Rockefeller was by far the best of the day - we got straight in, up in a bright-flashing-lights lift to the very top where there were amazing views of the whole city. Roy scared me by going near the edge. We took lots of photos and admired the view before heading reluctantly back down. After that we managed to fit in going to the Natural History Museum, seeing dinosaurs and space and lots more stuff! (I only wanted to go because Ross from friends worked there!) Finally we returned to Broadway, where we met up with everyone again to watch Rent - absolutely amazing! Everyone really enjoyed it, and I still can't get over the fact that I've seen a Broadway musical!!
Today was meant to be a less busy day but we seem to be exhausted again. We started by catching buses and subways to the Intrepid - a sea, air and space museum which was basically a huge aircraft carrier, submarine and concorde! Was really interesting and we got to see lots of planes...as well as go inside Concorde! We then had lunch at Applebees (see Kevin, we do listen to you sometimes) which was great, and were able to watch Little League World Series on the tv at the same time (I learnt all about baseball...) Then we caught the Staten Island Ferry to see the statue of liberty, then caught it back again! She looks so much smaller in real life. We stopped at the World Trade Centre Site before heading for Bloomingdales where I bought a bag and we saw Maria Sharapova!!!! Lots of excitement!! After wandering down 5th avenue we met up with friends again and had a great night before coming back to the hostel. Getting good at riding the subway at night! xxx
