Everybody slept some, but we also woke up a lot. Boychild and I woke up for good before everyone else, and we walked down to the boulangerie down the street, and bought some croissants and pain chocolat. Then we stopped at a cafe for some cafe cremes. In Paris, they are tiny, and don't come with lids or the little sleeves that protect your hands, so that was fun carrying those up several flights of stairs. Our building has an elevator, but we haven't really figured it out, so we're just taking the stairs.
After everyone ate, we ventured out to Notre Dame, where we had planned to go to the archaeological crypt, but it was closed today. We walked around Notre Dame, did some souvenir shopping, and the girlchild got a glace from Berthillon. We strolled around some more, hit Shakespeare and Company, then got really delicious, giant crepes (girls) and a hot dog/baguette (boys).
Next, we walked along the Seine to the Louvre, and walked around it to find an alternative to standing in the heat and sun by the pyramides. Success! We found a side entrance with NO line, and got in with our museum pass. Thanks, Rick Steves. Parts of the Louvre are air-conditioned, and parts are not. Guess which ones were our favorites? It is much hotter than expected in Paris right now.
After the Louvre, we strolled through the Tuileries, past Place de la Concord, and up the Champs Elysees. The boys used the museum pass to climb the Arc de Triomphe, while the girls opted to shop a bit instead. We all hit the Adidas store, then split up. Toria and I waited in line to get into La Duree for some of their famous macarons, somewhat against my will. You wait outside, then you wait in a curving line inside, and I don't even like macarons! Finally, a nice gentleman invited us into a bar area and said we could order from there. Um, yes, please. So we got to sit and peruse the menu instead of standing with the crowd, trying to see in the dimly lit store. Score! We got Salted Caramel, Pistachio, Cherry Blossom, and Marie Antoinette, which is some sort of tea flavor. We hit a few more stores, including H&M, where we found cute stuff, but didn't have time to stand in the line to buy before we had to meet the boys.
We got takeout pizza to take back to the apartment again, and picked up a few beers, some salad, and yogurt for tomorrow. Everyone is ready to go storm the beaches of Normandy tomorrow!
