My first day in Tacoma, and it's true what they say - Washington is wet, wet, wet. And cold. And wet some more. We headed down to the coast and Point Defiance for a walk on the beach whilst the rain held off, but not for long as we were soon very wet, again! Saw the Tacoma Narrows bridge across the sound.
The next few days were spent preparing us and the car for our roadtrip. We contacted some people via Couch Surfing for some free places to stay, and looked at where we wanted to go and where we could actually go due to weather/snow restrictions.
Tacoma is a pretty big town with the usual sprawling retail outlets and coffee shops and odd urban areas. The water front in the town is really nice and home to the Tacoma Art Museum and Glass Museum. Apparently, somewhere in the distance keeping a watchful eye on Tacoma and the Olympia area is the famous Mount Rainier, which *should* be visible from most of the state, but I never saw it. It was always too grey and cloudy, but I just think it didn't really exist...
We woke up on the Tuesday and decided that today would be the day we would set off on our trip. That was until we opened the curtains and found the world outside covered with a blanket of snow.
The next few days were spent lounging in Starbucks, researching places to stay and visit, eating Mexican food and packing. And we were finally ready to hit the road. We'd also been watching the weather and saw there was a huge wet weather storm due to hit Washington that would follow us all the way south - so it was now or never, so off we headed...
First stop - Boise, Idaho.
And I never did see that damn mountain...
