Well my last blog entry for 2011, and it's a soggy one.
It started raining on the last day in Kaikora. Luckily I did the long walk on the first day there, and just did some shopping the next morning before the rain really started. So I did my laundry and went to the supermarket to avoid the rain. Ohh the glamour!
Yesterday I got the Magic Bus and decided to stay on to Picton, as Blenheim has vineyards and not much else! We left in the rain, we arrived in the rain, but it was bright-ish and not too chilly. So yesterday I went for a walk along one of the tracks. It was fine at first, but the rain really started to fall about 3pm with battering winds. And here we are nearly 24 hrs later - with the same weather, it hasn't ceased for a minute!
I decided to spend a few hours in the hot tub of the hostel last night, just to keep warm! And still the rain fell. Today has been too wet and cold to do anything besides run to the internet cafe, then to the shop for milk and treat myself to a puzzle book! Oooh yeah, living the high life me!
Tonight is supposed to be music and fireworks at the harbour for New Years, but I think this may well be a bit of a wash-out!
On to Nelson tomorrow, where I have to stay for either one night or 3 nights as to fit in with the bus schedule, so not decided about that yet.
Apparently the rain is supposed to last for a few days - so I'll be having a typical soggy New Years, only on the bottom of the world!
And I'll officially be a whole year ahead of you for 13 hours - how weird! Happy New Year!!

Andypop There's a short story by Somerset Maugham entitled 'Rain'. He's not much read these days... I said to Kate yesterday that our current mild, damp, breezy December weather reminds me of NZ in, er, December! Don't forget to try a few of those local wines - it'd be rude not to! Happy New Year!
Graham Andy.. wherever she goes ends up being a "local whine"
