Canada 07 Tour
Day 6 Early checkout, said seeya to Graham and headed for the airport. Indian taxi driver scratched his head under the turban with a chop stick from the sun visor. Not as fast but talked cricket and how its cheaper to buy beer than water because of the drought. We flew out to Calgary, home of the Calgary Stampede and full of full of it cowboys. Taxied to the hostel, paid a little extra here due to lack of dusty options but the hostel here was pretty nice. We called on further intelligence in the area. Rebecca who was on the europe contiki tour rocked up in her Calgary Flames jersey for hugs allround. Jumped in her t Rav 4 and headed to a veitnamese joint for dinner. Had quail for the second time, nice but too many small bones, mental note, take the duck in future. Couple of glasses of red and we were off to the Pengrowth Saddledome to watch the Calgary Flames take on the San Jose Sharks (Ice Hockey for the uneducated). It was the first game for stu and gibbo, while 2nd for Rocket after seeing detroit earlier in the year. It was a great game, plenty of goals and a few fights and served by an 8 year old plenty of froth. The game ended 7-4 home win to the Flames, Gibbo on the proverbial bandwagon. Started to feel pretty alive with the froth and gibbo had the volume turned up, seems to happen somewhere between his 4th and 5th beer. His volume nob in his throat gets turned up a few notches so that you can hear him in the next province. Rebecca thought she was ok to drive and stu tried to talk her out of it but she said she was ok so off we went. Its turned out to be a mistake, lets just say we will never get in a car with a person who has had a couple again. Nothing real bad happened but lets just say we sobered up pretty quick and canned the night out and headed back to the hostel.
Day 7 Rebecca picked us up the next moring and we hired some ice skates. We skated at Olympic plaza, an outdoor rink in the city centre which commemorates the 88 Calgary winter olympics. All the names of the athletes that won medals at the games are on plaques around the rink there, pretty cool. Calgary seemed a pretty dirty place but i think thats was because of all the snow that had melted and all the dirt and slush was all over the footpaths. Had a pretty solid thickshake, but not the best ever and suggested by rebecca and then Arbys. Back to the hostel and Gibbo recieved a haircut from rebecca, a proper one for any of you thinking dirty. Listened to some 12th man who was coming to the fore once again on tour, other blokes in the dorm had no idea what was going on.
