Caught the ferry from Dubrovnik to Split today. Started with a bit of nonsense. Got told my ferry was leaving from three different locations. Eventually figured out where the right spot was and made it on the boat. We had a sleeper cabin which I passed out in without any trouble. When I was awake, the scenery outside was pretty nice cruising through the different islands. The boat made 4 stops before ours and continued on to the northernmost port in Croatia. The apartment we will call home for the next 9 days is inside the old city walls. It is part of a 300 year old building and is lived in by a family that has been here since its construction. Has everything we need and is comfortable with friendly landlords. After unpacking Sara and I headed out for our first look at split. It is a stunning place which first began as a palace for the Roman emperor Diocletian and changed hands several times including the Turks, the Venetians and Napoleon. Everyone chipped in their two bobs worth with an excellent result. More exploring tomorrow.
