Chilled day with no driving today. Exploring Oklahoma city.
Turned out to be a bit of a sombre day for many reasons.
Firstly we visited Moore where a catastrophic tornado hit earlier this summer. Its complete desolation and destruction. There is a picture ive uploaded which looks like an empty street. That used to be a street with 40 houses on. That was just one street of many.
There is the school site where there is no building anymore , and a shopping centre that is completely destroyed.
Then we went to the Oklahoma national memorial on the site of the 1995 bombing. The garden has 168 chairs representing all those that died. The small chairs are really poignant. And the building has been replaced by a lake. Really moving.
We also went to Stockyard city where upto 15000 cattle a day meet their end. Its the largest cattle market in the world, and earns its nickname of Americas meat locker.
At least I got to wear my new hat.
Small world- met a couple from Enfield at brekkie. They are here with their son who is receiving specialist treatment for Leukemia. Apparently this hotel is full of brits with their children having treatment the Uk cannot yet provide. They are here for three months
They said it was refreshing to meet other brits without discussing sick children. We wished them well.
Tornado warning on the telly for an area we will be travelling through in 2 days. Wish us luck! Gonna go twister chasin!
