Amazing day today. Went whale watching.
Up early and down to the long beach pier for the cruise. Went about 4 miles out into the pacific. Really misty but that soon burnt off.
Then we saw the whales. They really are the most beautiful and graceful things you will ever see.( and the largest). It was an incredibly moving encounter.
We saw about 6 - blue whales and a minky whale. Also saw a sea turtle which was about 3 feet long, bottle nose and common dolphins, seals and pelicans. Worth every penny. If we had time tomorrow I'd go again.
I think one of the highlights of the trip, and a fitting end.
Did the usual Beverley hills, Rodeo Drive and Sunset boulevard. Went up into the hills to the observatory and the hollywood sign. MAN , the traffic here is dreadful.
I was warned by several people before arriving, but it exceeds even the worst I was told.
Went to visit an old hero of mine, Johnny Ramone's grave in the Hollywood Forever cemetery, where Rudolph Valentino and other screen idols of yesteryear are buried. Saw Johnny play many times from about 1977-1983, in my punk days, and met the guy at Manchester Apollo in December 1977,when he signed my album ( which I still have and proudly display on my wall at home). Tomorrow is the annual Johnny Ramone remembrance service/ festival at the cemetery. The queue of overnight fans was building as we left.
Rest in peace JR. Gabba Gabba Hey! X
Saw the Queen Mary ship and film studios. And loads of Hobo's pushing trolleys. (Theyre everywhere). At least they dont have to put up with the traffic.
Went to Santa Monica this afternoon to officially end the road trip at the route 66 end sign. 2844 miles of pure heaven. Probably the best holiday we have ever had.
New nationality for us today - Irish. How the lady thought that I do not know. Still, makes a change to ozzies.
Bit of shopping tonight and an early bed as tired. Sad to be leaving tomorrow but am ready to get back to normality, missing our friends and eating proper food.
