Hi all, sorry (as usual) that it's been so long since the last blog post but we've been concentrating our efforts on finding a job here in Queenstown. We tried a few weeks back when we originaly arrived here but the was very little on offer because the ski season was yet to start so we took ourselves off ona bit of a road trip to Dunedin to see if we'd have any more luck down there.
Dunedin was ok but not a patch on Queenstown for scenery and nightlife so we didn't stick around for too long. There were a couple of interesting things round there though. We went for a drive down the Dunedin Peninsula one afternoon and waited by a beach for the sun to go down in the hope of seeing penguins. I had no idea you could get penguins around here but i can understand why when it's so cold at the moment! After about 45 minutes of watching the water in the dark we finally saw a big group of them riding a wave onto the beach. They then waddled up the rocks and walked right past us to their burrows where the baby penguins (penguinlets???) were squawking to be fed.
We also went to see the steepest road in the world...not the most exciting thing ever but we walked up it anyway and sat at the top for half an hour while we gathered the energy to roll back down it again. We considered driving up it but then decided that our van probably wouldn't have appreciated it too much and may well have exploded before reaching the top!
After leaving Dunedin we had a couple of nights camping out in conservation parks in the middle of nowhere. The fist site was amazing and we had a beach about 10 meters from our doorstep and a stunning view across the bay as the sun rose over the mountains in the morning. The second site wasn't quite so impressive, although we did have a nice stream nearby but it was slightly too cold to go for a paddle. The morning after arriving there we attempted to leave the van but found that we'd been frozen inside and couldn't open the doors! When we did finally escape we got as far away from the campsite as possible and headed straight back up to Queenstown!
So that bring us up to now; back in Queenstown and finally with jobs!!! We're working in a call centre (eek!) taking abuse off Australians who don't want to save 10% per month on their electricty bill. It's a good laugh though and all the other people there are a similar age and in a similar situation to us...skint and desperate to work wherever they can!
That's about everything for now;i'll try to get some more pics up next time i get online (although i've a feeling our audience might be deminishing rapidly with the lack of updates recently so you'll have to let us know if you're still out there reading the blog (all messages are greatfully received))
Just one other bit of news... unfortunately Dave's had to head back home so we're down to just me & Jules now. Gutted you had to leave Dave but it sound like you're havin a great time jumping out of planes on a regular basis anyway!
So that'll be all for now, hopefully it won't be quite so long before the next exciting episode of "Steve & Jules in a call centre in Queenstown"!
Keep the messages coming as always, it's good to hear when people are reading the blog, love to all
