Hi guys Rossinder Belfaraezi & Bethpur Grajmahal here reporting in:
Wow India is crazy - We had a great plane journey, free drinks, loads of room and plenty to eat apart from the weirdo Norwegian girl who didn't go for a wee for 9hrs who was sat next to us. All was good, we got off the plane and ordered a taxi from easy cabs. when we got outside there were six skinny looking indians who surrounded us trying to grab our bags and put them in the back of the car - needless to say it got a bit agro - it's 2:30 am we're knackered, don't know where we are and are both paranoid about getting scammed. Ross was ready to bring out the shank.
And so the intense journey to our hotel began. Some indian fella jumped in the front of the cab with the taxi driver, who we nicknamed 'skull'ed' on account of his emaciated complexion. Traffic to the hotel was bumper to bumper - it was smoggy and we were stuck in the middle of the nightly 'truck rush'. It literally was the whacky races. We got to Lals Haveli, the hotel, after neither the taxi driver nor his mate (the chuckle brothers) knowing where it was.
We were relieved to have finally made it after turning down some dodgy side street where there is neon sign for Lals - it looks like some kind of lap dancing joint. However, once we got in, it was clean, tidy and we managed to get our heads down for some junky limbo sleep, the kind you get after a night drinking copius amounts of vodka & redbull.
Delhi
After a restless night at Lals and still recovering from the taxi journey we were ready to bail. When we first stepped out onto the street in the morning we were amazed at what it was like. it's 8 am and already busy full of people, weird smells, cows and god knows what else. We hastely retreated back into Lals where we met this guy, John (indian), who drove us into the centre of Delhi and persuaded us to book an all expenses paid 12 night flashpacker tour of Rajasthan. we were now cruising around Delhi in an old school car from colonial times called 'the ambassador', complete with our own driver, Rawat, and tour guide for the day, Khan (knob).
Our fist day comprised seeing all of the sights of Delhi. First we went to the presidents house built by the British, Ross got all patriotic and wished he had brought his england flag. Then we headed to the Qutab Minar (was like old ruins of an anciant city). I convinced Ross to buy the audio set (headphones and a tape player) so we would know what was going on - we looked like a right pair of losers! Anyway, people certainly seemed to be taken with us after half an hour people started asking for our photo - a big group in particular who all lined up and shook our hands afterwards. Then we saw various temples and forts for the rest of the day - even by the end of day 1 we were starting to get used to Indian life!
Agra
After another night at Lal's we set off early to see the sights of Agra. The drive was pretty long but there is so much to look at on the way it goes so quick - the villages are just like the city but on a smaller scale. Me and ross just sit in the back of the car staring out of the window - we've bought loads of sweets and biscuits to give to the gypsey / poor kids we see on the way (apart from ross insists on eating all the good chocolate biscuits so we have to keep replenishing the stash!). Once we got to Agra we decided to go for a nice tea so our driver took us to a rooftop restaurant that overlooked the Taj Mahal - it was so amazing - just eating our tea looking at the Taj - so we ate v nice food and watched the sunset. The next morning we got up at 5.30am to get to the Taj at 6.30am to watch the sunrise! It was really breathtaking - and just the most amazing place!!
Ranthambhore (Deer Safari)
Then it was off to Ranthambore to go on a tiger safari - we were both very excited - we stayed in a hotel nr the national park overnight - to be ready to get picked up at 6am to go tiger hunting. we met this guy travelling on his own and had a good feed - once we got talking he mentioned he'd been to hong kong and camped on a beach, ross said his uncle runs a place on a becah nr hong kong - it turned out to be the same place! then he said oh we'd never have got there without this english girl giving us directions - turns out he had met ross' sister and so win hong kong and then 2 weeks later us in india - how weird!! Anyway got up bright and early and headed off on a big jeep style truck - turns out we didnt see one tiger - ross called the trip the deer safari cause thats all we bloody saw!! the most exciting bits were prenteding we wer eon a rollercoaster when the jeep went at about 60mph over massive bumps!! but the national park was an interesting place all the same! turns out the next day we read in the delhi times that the morning we had been on safari a local indian man had got mauled to death by a tiger while collecting firewood - so we were complaining about the lack of excitment but it could have been worse!
Jaipur
next stop was a city called Jaipur - we had a really nice hotel with a lovely rooftop terrrace were we had breakfasts and chilled out for a bit! We went to visit the amber fort - which has loads of indian history and the city palace - both were v interesting but in 43 degree heat it was a long day!! we managed to see the marharag (like the king of the city!) while we were at the palace aswell which was v good!
Pushkar
after a very few hectic days of seeing places, forts, temples and palaces - we were starting to feel done in - the weather is so hot - they are having a heatwave and it's just crazy heat. But next on the trip was a place called Pushkar - as soon as we got there we could feel calmness in the atmosphere - it was much quiter which was really nice - Pushkar is a haven for isreali hippies - which made for a really good atmosphere - you could just wander atround and look in the stalls - we found a sunset cafe and watched the sunset over the holy lake (it didnt even have any water in but was the main attraction!?) we onyl stayed one night but it really chilled us out and was defintitly what we needed!
Jaislamer
then we had a marathon journey in the ammbassador to jaislamer - it took about 8 hours - but actually after stopping off at a few villages along the way it was actually ok! plus we were just chilling in the back of the car while the driver put his foot down so it was fine! Jaislamer was a bit wierd cause it was total desert. Each city we have been to is just toally different - they all have a compeltly different feel/atmosphere. This one was nicknamed hte golden city cause everything is made out of sandstone - we arrived and it was bioling but we scored with the hotel - it was H..mazing! all sandstone and had a swimming pool, plus views of the city fort from the pool! It took ross a total of 2 mins to have his swimming shorts out and doing bombs in the pool! then we went up to the roof and they had gorgeous restaurant so we chilled and had a nice tea - this is now about the 7th curry tea in a row - but our bellys are still ok, we are being really careful about what we eat so it's going ok. No meat, milk or anything just vegetarian stuff - but it's all such good food! we meet a complete nutter while having our tea - she was from eastern europe and was absolutly off her head she was trying to get me to dance with her while two little indians played the bongos!! with that and an electricity cut in the whole city it was a funny night!
the next day we headed off further into the desert for a camel safari - we really didnt know what to expect but we got there at about 4pm and got our camels - ross' was a bit agro and he named it colin - mine was definetly a girl and we called it clara and off we went inot the desert (with tweo little indian guys leading the way!!)./ after chattting to Colin and Clara teh camels, turns out they know 'prec' and they are counsins!! Ella you will have been so proud I was full on riding the camel with no sweat - it was practice for precious when i get back. the deset and camel riding was just amazing - within about 20 mins we were in the middle of the desert and all we could see were sand dunes. After a while of trekking we stopped off to watch the sun set which was just so quiet and peaceful - then we were back on the camels to go to the resort. The resort is load of huts that you could sleep in, the other alterntive for sleep was to trek back into the desert with a matress and blankets to sleep under the stars!! after a quick glance at each other we knew that it was the hut for us!! there was not a chance we were sleeping bare back in the desert!! so with about 4 other couples we sat around outside these huts in the full on outback listening to indian music (performed by a family) and we ate more indian food! Leanne - the bongo music was so good, me and ross had a little dance and it reminded me of venus!! the nights sleep in the hut must have been the worst ever - it was sooooo hot and we are both paraniod about gettring bitten (the mossies have taken a right liking to me I even have a bite on my chin and forehead - dev'od!!)
Jodphur
we have moved on from the desert and are now in a city called jodphur - it is still swealtering heat and we have been to see yet another fort!! but it was really nice and interesting!! Jodphur is called the blue city cause all the houses are painted a violet colour.
