On Monday morning, 6am, we arrived in Nha trang. We spent the morning at Long Son pagoda. At the top of the hill, behind the pagoda, is a 14m Budda seated on a lotus blossom. It was quite a sight, being almost blindingly white and so huge.
We then hit the beach, which was lined with palm trees, and the sea was lovely and clear. The beach had a lively atmosphere, with beach front restaurants and lots of watersports going on, but it still managed to maintain a sense of space as the beach wasn't the least bit crowded. For lunch we went to Louisiana Brewhouse a restaurant looking on to the beach. Again, there was a great atmosphere here, with good music (not cheesy for a change!), a pool filled with excitable kids, and pool table. I ordered cuttlefish grilled with 5 spice, and chocolate mud cake with coconut ice-cream for dessert- amazing!!
Nha trang has a bit of a reputation for being a party spot, so in the evening we hit the bars. There were hundreds, and outside each one was enthusiastic Vietnamese staff tasked with getting you into their individual bars. The drink deals were became increasingly outrageous to draw us in- e.g happy 'hour' 4pm- 1am, free mojito for ladies, spirit mixer buckets for 55000d (under £2!). We went to the red apple club, booze cruise, oasis, and finally the sailing club on the beachfront. The sailing club was great fun as there were lots of young Vietnamese people there- their dancing is so funny, very camp!! They were really friendly and kept pulling us into their dance circle.
