Hi guys, Firstly I would like to apologies for not having put anything on the website for a while.... Secondly I want everyone to know that I am still having a great time and to those of you who emailed no I haven't been kidnapped, held to ransom or sold into the white slave trade. I haven't however done very much for the last week or so. I have still be going out walking and enjoying the sites but I have been talking to the locals a lot more and getting to know some of them, drinking chai and (very occasionally a beer!) I have been to watch the Pudja a couple of times, this is a nightly ritual, with music playing and bells ringing 5 religious figures perform he ceremony on the banks of the river Ganges. Its dark when it starts so the photos aren't so good... I will be putting more up soon. But basically they are making offerings to the Ganges to ensure that it carries on being the lifeline of India. It's incredible to watch people washing in the river. Mostly people remain decent while bathing, children often run around naked though. Firstly they start washing there clothes while scantily clad - the men have tie on thong underwear that they wear. The women wash one end of the sari at a time whilst wearing the other half. Then the clothes are laid out to dry on the steps leading to the water. A full body wash ensues with mountains of lather in some cases and thanks giving to the water. The personal ritual includes rinsing the mouth out 5 times and then cupping water in two muttering something and allowing the water to trickle back into the river - this is repeated to all four compass directions. You'll all be glad no doubt to know that I am moving on soon - the ticket is booked for the 5th to Delhi to have a look round which I will report upon when I get there as it will be more interesting that what I am doing at the moment. (Mostly not much) I have really enjoyed just chilling out but its time to travel again now. Oh I just want to remind everyone (Alex) that everybody can see messages on the board so please no swearing! Also there is a new thing where you can email me by clicking on the email thingy on the website thought I am sure you all have my email anyway but I thought it was cool. So I must go and finish my washing and start packing - as usual my bag seems to have exploded across the room! I also have to check for geckos, as one of them seems to particularly like walking on my bag.
