Rosemary's Ramblings
I SAW MY FIRST ELEPHANT!!!!
so... i am still traveling round with the hotel owner though he will be returning to varanasi soon so my luxery section will soon be over. we went by car (with a driver) from Delhi to Jaipur whcih is in Rajestan. it took us about 5 hours, we arrived at just after lunch. jaipur is an amazing city in 2 parts, the newer and the old - the old city is a walled one and all the buildings within the walls are painted a lovely salmon pink colour by order of one of the long dead maharaja's.
the first afternoon was spent looking at som eof the stock that chiku was buying - he checks as much as possible before he buys it. it was really interesting going to a wholesalers. they have a lot of respect for chiku and told me to make myself at home - one of the rooms was full of material that i just wanted to dive in! but i refrained. after carefully unfolding and looking at a couple of items the main guy came over and just pulled a load open and piled them on the floor and sent someone to follow me round to put things away. (apparently its not my job to fold them again!) some of the things were amazing - i came away with a bag and two bolster pillow covers. i was very good as i could have walked away with a lot more! it was quite dusty but good fun. after this we headed back to the hotel and i had a shower ready for dinner - i put my combats and a black vest top on to go out with a little bit of makup. we were meeting up with one of chikus friends for a couple of drinks and dinner.
as we stood outside a car pulled up with his friedn and driver inside - so off we went on the way i saw a camel cart and then low and behold an elephant walking down the road! i didit get chance to take a photo as it was a bit too surreal at the time. anywya back to dinner - we only ended up going to the best 5 star hotel in jaipur for dinner. it was a really good night but quite expensive by indian standards an dnot cheap by british but anyway they wouldnt let me pay towards it.
