What Rose is up to...
In Cairns now. it is very nice- lots of palm trees and ten billion tourists, me obviously included.
I got a bit sunburnt, happened on the first day despite the fact that I was wearing factor 50 and regularly re-apply. thanks folks for the rubbish ginger genes- a fate made crueller by the fact that I am surrounded by the world's uber-tanned.
Have mostly been relaxing (now covered-up and in the shade) reading and doing a bit of shopping (I don't think my backpack will remain under 10kgs for much longer).
I checked into a new hostel in Cairns yesterday (the other one was horrendously large and mostly full of drunk americans with luggage the size of spacious housing units) and was almost immediately taken in hand by a supernanny type woman who without me asking promptly arrange the next 10 days for me. Being still a bit ill, lacking sleep because of the loud, bed-shaking hostel, and having had only one coffee that day, I just nodded along and handed over my card. Things seem to have turned out ok though! went out to the great barrier reef today (up to port douglas where it's apparently a bit better than down here in cairns) to do some snorkelling. which was nice...lots of fish. M y personal favourite being Eighties-Fish. This is probably not it's latin name but it was all white except for 1 black and 1 yellow stripe down each side and a black dot on its tail: Eighties-Fish... and a big fish which appear to be wearing leopard print.
I'm catching the greyhound tonight for what I am sure will be a delightful 11hour bus trip. Upon arrival I will be getting back on another boat for a couple of days round the whitsundays.
