Hey! So then, finally getting around to writing my blog about Bali... Here goes, don't really know where to start as it seems so long ago and we jam packed so much into that one week.
We arrived on the 24th, at midnight and for the first time my transfer thing was actually there! Very amazed! After ages driving on pot-holed road we got to a dingy crappy hotel which was right above a lap dancing place (note to people going to Bali, don't stay in Galaxy Globe, Seminyak if you want 10mins of sleep!! Lovely town not good location)
In the morning we met up with a tour guide thing from the comany that did the transfer and are associated with STA. He was really nice and after discussing what we wanted to do and would like to see he calculated all these huge numbers which made it over 2million rupia for a 5 day trip...in english money, just over 100quid, wow, I am a millionaire!!..better make the most of it seeing as it will be the only time in my life! We just chilled out for the rest of the day, took a look around the shops, went to the beach and had some food.
Early start on Monday, we left at 8:30 to go on a day trip up to the old ancient capital on Singaraja. En route we stopped off loooads of times and saw rice growning in paddy fields (I can't believe how hard all these people have to work!!) Gustu (our personal guide) told us all about the history of all these towns and Balinese people and stuff but it didn't really go in!! Went to see traditional Balinese dancing which was alright but lasted aaaages and was all the same moves and stuff. Then we went to see a load of stuff being made like Stone carving, Batik clothes, Painting, Jewelry making etc etc, got fed up of jumping in and out of the bus! I got a frangipani painting, really wanted some abstract art but they didn't have any small canvasses, managed to get a really good price on it though. After lunch we saw a volcano thing but it was all foggy so couldn't actually see it. We went to a mini plantation thing and saw loads of stuff growing like coffee, cocoa, cinnamon, fruits, spices etc; I seemed like such a dumb blonde the whole time going - oh wow is that how that grows I thought it grew on trees...etc etc! We got given some hot choc which was yummy. We are staying in such a nice hotel, it is surrounded by frangipanis and is beautiful.
Thought that the dolphin trip would be cancelled this morning but it wasn't so I ended up going out in the rain and wind on a really bumpy crappy canoe thing for 2 hrs, feeling very sea sick and not seeing even the slightest glimpse of a dolphin!! Spent the rest of the day chilling out by the pool and managed to get sunburnt when it was cloudy and raining! grr!!! Met up with 2 english girls that we had met at the airport and had a nice meal with them.
Next day we had breakie with Emma and Sarah and all headed off together to the hot springs, was a huge tropical thunderstorm but we all stripped off and jumped in! The water was lovely and warm. After that we went to the Git Git watrfall which was maaahussive, got soaking wet going there too but hey!! Went to monkey forest, was soo cool to see the monkeys and stand with them and stuff, melissa was terrified and Gustu made her jump so she ran away! Got to a really pants hotel. We went for a walk around Ubud which was a really nice artsy town with lots of cool cafes... Then I got flashed on the way back to the hotel which caused a lot of commotion as I told our tour guide so they sent huge search party out to 'go and get him'!!!
Spent the morning having to give reports about that guy! I haven't a clue what he looked like, it was dark and they all look the same to me!! We went to a really nice cafe in Ubud and had a walk around. The amount of people asking us if we want transport is driving me insane! Mel says I should just ignore them as I'm getting so wound up! 'you want transport, you want transport sweeeite' 'no thankyou' 'you want taxi darling' 'no thanks' 'transport? transport?' 'No'... 'Taxi, yes?' 'Taxi NO'...god it's enough to drive ya crazy i'm telling you!!
Had a really luxurious massage which lasted most of the day...needed a wee most the way thru tho!!! Got down to Kuta in the afternoon and went to a rubbish restaurant where they tried to over charge us by about 20 times more than it was meant to be! Got to eat on the beach though which was nice.
Friday was our elephant ride! We got a pick up from the hotel and taken to the place where all the elephants were, I was terrified!! They were huge! I was pleased when our one didn't have tusks cos I thought this meant that t would be nicer/less likely to hurt as much if it charged at me...do elephants charge??!! I think they do..they do on the Jungle Book don't they!! Melissa hopped on to the humongous thing and everyone was waiting on me to do the same...I didn't think that the elephant would like me stepping all over her to get on to her and thought she might kick me off then trample me!! But she didn't! She just stood there!! Then we got going, it was sooo bumpy! I was sure that I was going to fall off as we went on all these small paths up and down hills that were really narrow!! The elephant handler tried to get off a few times to take photos of us but I wouldn't let him! It turned out it wasn't as good to have an elephant without tusks as that means that they are female and god ours was sooo hormonal! She kept turning around, going the wrong way, lifting herself up (which sent us soaring backwards!) to trumpet to the boy elephant that was following us. We got given some coconut milk to drink but I didn't like it as I am well fussy so gave it to Deli, our elephant, she stamped on it then ate it! We went through water and stuff too. When we got back I was soo pleased I made it alive!! And glad that I did it, we fed Deli some bananas and had a couple of photos with her, had a bit of lunch then went back to the hotel. We went out for tea to a traditional Balinese restaurant, where you sit on the floor and everythin! It was soooo spicy, I only had the smallest amount of the sauce stuff ever but it made my whole plate of rice real spicy! Apparently I'm a chicken; also because everyone was eating with their hands and I said I couldn't bring myself to do it...agh I'm a snob!!!!
We had breakie and then took a look around the shops again on the Saturday, I haven't managed to buy much unfortunately..I guess that's a good thing though cos I can't really carry any more. Melissa left after lunch and I hung around by the pool for the rest of the day walked around a bit but it was scarier on my own! Even more people approaching me to ask me to buy something or if I need a taxi or if I wanted to marry them. So just stayed in the hotel like a loner! Got a transfer to the airport with Roy and OBB and sat around for ages for my flight. I'm going to miss Bali, it is such a nice country and everyone is so content with what they have and make the most of life, it's great. Oh, and it's nice and cheap for me which is always a bonus!!
