So it's early Monday morning in New York, and it's raining like an absolute b**** outside. Seriously, I haven't seen rain like this since I was in Indonesia - it's heavy, and it's not f***ing around, but on the plus side it is warm. New York is absolutely amazing, and I haven't even been to the good bits yet. Flight was awesome - plently of House and NCIS to keep me occupied, and relatively few screaming children needing sedation. The sleep situation is currently good - managed to stay up until about 9 PM local time (2 AM GMT) before collapsing, and slept fairly well even though I'm sharing a room with five other people. I don't know them very well, but they all seem nice - two Australian girls (very pretty blondes with enviable tans) called Jess and Sheridan, an English girl, and another two (or possibly only one) who showed up after I crashed.
Everything you hear about New Yorkers being unfriendly? Yeah, that's all crap. 90% of the people I've met have been really, really nice. They smile at you in the street, at the airport, on the subway (which is ridiculously hot, btw - even worse than the Underground). The hostel itself is lovely, but way bigger than I expected - there's literally hundreds of people here. All of whom also seem to be very very lovely, like the nice German girl who spotted me when I emerged blinking into the rain from the subway with my ginormous bag on my back and pointed me in the right direction.
So, the plan for today is to head down to Times Square to buy a couple of Greyhound tickets and then spend the rest of the day... well. Bumming around New York, I suppose. There are worse ways to spend a day.
Brewster out. xxxxx
