We'd been a bit lazy and not booked a hostel before we arrived in Byron, but were soon taken in at The Arts Factory, a hippy retreat slightly out of the main town. We declined all offers for yoga classes and didgeridoo lessons and instead made our way to the beach to enjoy the afternoon sun, before exploring the many tourist shops on offer.
The Arts Factory has its own cinema with cow-skin covered comfy sofas that we made use of in the evening, watching the Dylan inspired film, 'I'm Not There.' Although the sofas made a nice change, we weren't all that impressed with the film which was a shame as we'd been looking forward to it.
On our second, and last day, we thought we'd take advantage of the glorious sunshine as we had a feeling the temperature would drop as we ventured further South over the next month. Everyone seemed to have the same idea and the beach was full of people sunning themselves and making use of the fantastic waves.
Having checked out of the hostel that morning, we were without a kitchen for dinner, and unfortunately all the pubs seem to close on a Sunday evening, so we made use of the local Dominos Pizza, twice in fact. While waiting for our first round of pizzas to be cooked, we inevitably ended up bumping into people we'd previously met on our tour down the East coast, so happily killed some time before our bus exchanging our experiences of Fraser Island.
Our bus to Sydney arrived at 10pm and I was dreading the 13-hour trip ahead. Luckily, however, the bus was less than half full, and combined with my request to purchase pillows before the journey, we had quite a pleasant ride to the big city.
