Made it to Thailand and Bangkok a day early, safe and sound (in the end). Big surprise for Mum & Dad, Rach & Stuart as Rache and I sat in the Banyan Tree lobby smiling at them when they arrived to check in!
Our flight from Hong Kong was a bit of an adventure... they asked for a doctor part way through the 3 hour flight and about half way in, we realised that the plane was decending at an unhealthy rate of knots and our "time to destination" on the screens has plummeted from 1hr 20 to 19 minutes! It was something of a relief to be told that someone was having a heart attack and we were making an emergency landing in Da Nang, Vietnam in an effort to save them, because at this point we were convinced the plane had been hijacked and in a sick twist the hijackers had gone to the trouble of updating the in-flight entertainment systems with details of our projected crash-landing destination! Sadly, i don't think the passenger made it after all that and we arrived pretty exhausted in Bangkok about 3 hours later than planned, at 4am!
Had a day to recover on the 23rd before my folks arrived... we then spent christmas eve at a bar drinking, eating and singing to the band, last night we had the most amazing (and surreal) christmas dinner at the open-air Vertigo restaurant, 61 floors up on the top of the Banyan Tree - amazing! - and today we're relaxing by the pool, before flying to Krabbi tomorrow. Fab christmas day, though it felt weird being away from home and the rest of our families and friends.
Managed to see the big sights on christmas eve and Stuart should get his way later when we head to Patpong to see the lady boys!
Hope everyone is well and enjoyed their christmas days! Lots of love, I&R!!!
