Because it was new year Hanoi was dead so we headed to Halong Bay. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great, and we had booked onto a boat for two days and one night. Our guide provided the entertainment for the journey there, she was crazy. Apparently related to Adele?! Anyway we checked in and was nicely surprised by our lovely room on the boat.
We set sail to Halong bay, the scenery was amazing. Halong bay is made up of nearly 2000 islands that tower out of the water.
We anchored and set off on a smaller boat to get on some kayaks. We paddled around the islands for an hour or so, it was so much fun if a little tiring. We then boarded the small boat and headed to a cave in one of the islands. The cave was huge and very impressive. From here we headed back to the big boat to shower and get ready for diner. The drinks were really expensive and they wanted 10,000 dong per can if you had bought your own beer, it was a bit of a joke. A women came rowing past selling beer so a couple of young Aussies bought a crate through there bedroom window, it was very funny. We were all resorted to drinking in secret, it felt like being young again, filling up our empty beer cans with vodka and coke. Well after a few hours of drinking the karaoke was turned on, it was hilarious, Pete even sang his heart out! It was a brilliant night!
The next day we were up early for breakfast, you had the option to go and see some monkeys on an Island for an extra fee, feeling pretty tired and the fact that since being away we have grown to dislike monkeys we turned it down and got some extra rest. It was so nice waking up and opening the curtains to Halong bay.
We spent the rest of the morning sitting on the top deck enjoying the view, even though it was a little chilly.
We finally headed back to Hanoi in a hope that more things would be open.
