Well, lets start from the beginning.
Arriving in Heathrow after flying from Manchester, we didn't have a clue where to go! After asking many people we found out we had to take the train to our terminal. (yes! a train!)
This was the beginning of our 'walking around in circles' habit. We made it to the train and when it arrived we were so amazed by the length of it! It was the whole length of the platform!
So, we boarded our plane and waiting on our chairs were pillows, covers, eyemasks and tooth brushes! Then we discovered the touchscreen entertainment system with endless amounts of entertainment: music, films, games, news, books etc! For the next 13 hours we were treated like queens with regular food and drink whenever we wanted!
After breathing in the farts of the guy infront for half the journey I was eager to get off the plane. My first impression of Singapore was indescribable! A mix of excitement and shock at the same time. Especially seeing as we were pretty much the only white people there. I now knew how it felt to be the minority! The stares from locals were so intimidating! After figuring out what our hotel was called we jumped in a taxi and were silent the whole way, just staring out the window at the amazing trees and buildings! Then we turned onto our street/ area, Joo Chait and my face just dropped and my heart began to pound! It was such a drastic change from the rest of the city! Compact shops and flats, dingy cafes and locals just sat around the streets. Our hotel, Fragrance Hotel, was the best looking place on the street (minus the cockroaches in the room!) We had to catch a bus to the centre it was a pretty scary experience! The bus driver was raising his voice when he didn't understand us so we just gave some money and sat down and gradually realised that the people were very hostile.
Most of our day was spent walking around the markets and buying a FunVee bus pass in which we could travel around the whole city on. That night, we heard about an irish bar called Muddy Murphys so we had to go (way way too expensive!) The next day we visited Little India, another market place, where we got a henna tattoo, and Arab street where we ate that night.
Our last day was spent in Sentosa, the man-made and only beach in Singapore. There was also a Universal Studios there but we were on a budget so decided for the free option. It was like paradise when we got there! Lots of different beaches, so we chose one and had a large area pretty much to ourselves! It was such a relief to be in the water after 3 days of walking in circles! A Singaporean guy swan over and we were chatting about our travels and he was one of the nicest Singaporeans we'd met in 3 days! After a while we decided to head back and book our hostel for Kuala Lumpur.
Overall, Singapore was an amazing place with the technology and beautiful, clean buildings and street, but it wasn't what me and Shevs were hoping for. It was way too expensive and less cultural than we were expecting. We were happy to leave after 3 days!
