We arrived in Mui Ne after an uneventful bus ride from Nha Trang and pretty much checked into the first hotel we found with a decent rate. Later we realized that this may have been a mistake as although the hotel had a pool and sun loungers there was no access to the beach except for super late at night when the tide went out and although I'm not against midnight swimming I wouldn't want to make it a regular occurrence. When we had checked in we walked the 45 minutes up to the accessible beach and discovered that Mui Ne was pretty simple in that it consisted of one road only, which was filled with hotels and occasionally a restaurant. The beach was full of awesome kite surfers who kept us more than amused for quite a while with their snazzy tricks. Unfortunately the clouds continued to hang lazily in the sky and refused to budge so when we returned to the hotel although we couldn't sunbathe as such we went for a swim and got chatting to some American girls who were also desperately waiting for the sun to appear.
The following day we had high hopes for the weather as we had planned to go on a sand sledding trip on the dunes for which Mui Ne is famous. However, the fates were against us and when we awoke the sound of rain pattering against the roof pretty much set the tone for the day. At breakfast we sat down with the two American girls Nina and Tova and didn't budge all day.It was a day of many meals, various snacks, pool games and general rain dodging activities. Tom's favourite activity of the day was finding the hidden stone in the pool in competition with Tova although his excuse for losing was that he was laughing too much, which I personally think is a very convenient tale… In the evening we ate at a local restaurant before spending the rest of the night at the next door beach bar with the American girls and their newly arrived friend from sunnyDarlington (no that's not some conveniently named English hangout in Vietnam I mean the real place in the Northeast.) We had decided not to hang around the next day just for the weather to break as there was no guarantee that it would and we didn't want to waste any days that were left on our visa so there were farewells all round when we left as we had an early start the next day for the bus to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon.)
Apologies for the brief nature of this blog entry but there's not too much that can be said about our lazy lounging around a hotel eating, short and sweet is the way to go!
