There were quite a few weird and wacky things we saw in Barcelona, so I thought I should set aside one of the blogs just for them.
First up, Casa Batlo, designed and built by Gaudi for the Batllo family ( a successful textile industrialist) in 1906 on Passage de Gracia, which was in its day the prestigious street to live. The house carries a distinctive "sea life" theme, both real and mythical, as it was designed around the time of Jules Verne's book 20,000 leagues under the sea.
While we're talking about Gaudi, we saw the church he worked on called Sagrada Familia. This church was first started in 1826. Gaudi began working on it in 1883 until his death in 1926 (he is buried in the crypt within this church). Several others have worked on this church since, and work is still ongoing and is expected to be finished by the middle of this century.
While jauntiness through the streets of Barcelona, we saw some very odd little vehicles, which you can rent.
Found a shop dedicated to selling sissors - I never knew there could be that many different types of scissors.
And finally, bumped into this amazing cake shop! Or is it?
