We finally arrived in Paris, made our way to the apartment, left 3 voicemail messages and a SMS to our contact who doesn't show! It's 10:30 at night, we're exhausted after being a plane for nearly on 20 hrs and we have nowhere to sleep - Welcome to Paris.
Deployed the iPad, got the credit card out and asked google to find a hotel nearby which we did on the 4th try. Being summer holidays here almost everything is full. All is good again :)
After a comatose sleep and some breakfast I set about sorting out the accommodation. Fortunately it was an Australian company in Melbourne that owns the apartment and after a quick conversation it was sorted. They were very apologetic and helpful in getting us sorted and will refund us the hotel room.
The apartment was brilliant, right near all the cafes and restaurants in the 2nd arrondissement in Montorgueil just of Rue Montorgueil.
After unpacking, we set out on our first day in Paris. We decided to over the major touristy stuff done. We took a leisurely stroll up the Avenue Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe. Climbed all 284 steps to reach the top for some brilliant views of Paris (see pics) then legged it to the nearest metro ( which is just brilliant in Paris - unlike s***tyRail in Sydney)
After dinner in one of the local cafes, the girls decided that was enough for the day. Henry and I kicked on (given the sun doesnt set until 10 with quite a long twlight) and took a stroll to the River Seine and a peak at Notre Dame and the Conciergerie which was awesome (see pics)
Chalked up 23k steps, just over 18kms walked today which do just fine thanks, better save some legs for tomorrow.
